Sigma Pi stabbed to death near campus
I just read this in one of our local newspapers :(
article Berkeley engineering student fatally stabbed near campus The Associated Press Article Launched: 05/03/2008 01:30:18 PM PDT BERKELEY, Calif.—A 21-year-old engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley was fatally stabbed Saturday as he walked home, the school said. Christopher Wootton was found at 2:45 p.m. in a sorority parking lot a few blocks from the Berkeley campus, the school said. Officers had been called to investigate reports that someone had brandished a knife near the Chi Omega sorority when they found him. He died on the way to the hospital, police said. The school said Wootton was stabbed in "an altercation" on the south side of the campus. Wootton was set to graduate this month and start a graduate program in nuclear engineering program at Cal this fall, the school said. No arrests have been made, but Berkeley police homicide detectives and campus police are interviewing witnesses and expect to make an arrest soon, police said. "This futile and senseless killing is a loss felt by us all, including his teachers, friends, and especially his fraternity brothers at Sigma Pi, " said UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, in a statement. |
i never really know what to say to these sort of things. But its such a shame to loose anyone so young with such a future ahead you know. I hope they find who ever did this. Ill pray for his family and friends.

A suspect has been arrested, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's web site:
'Christopher Wootton, who loved '80s music, poker, baseball and football, according to his MySpace page, would have received his undergraduate degree later this month and was going to begin graduate school in nuclear engineering at UC Berkeley in the fall. Berkeley police arrested Andrew Thomas Hoeft-Edenfield, 20, of Berkeley in connection with the killing, police Sgt. Mary Kusmiss said."
