I feel like whenever I have a question, someone on GC has the answer. So I'm starting a Beauty Question and Answer thread for us! Hooray!

Here I go: My hair has gotten brassy after dyeing it (it's been a while). I don't need/want to dye it again. Is there any way to make it less brassy without dye?

There is a "purple" shampoo you can buy that works really well. It's been a long time since I was a blonde, and I can't remember the name of it. :)

Here's a question for all the bare minerals addicts-- what's a really good moisturizer to use underneath? The skin-revupper makes me really tight and itchy, but when I use another moisturizer it's fine. I just can't find one I really like.

the Body Shop makes good products specialized to your skin type. I use The Seaweed line during the day. During Winter, at night, and after sunburn I love to use Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. I use the Present clear make up, also by Philosophy, as the last step before putting on make up. I use it as my make up primer and it's awesome. You can also use The Present alone as a moisturizer. Hope this helps. I use and recommend the bare minerals Prime Time eyelid primer before applying eye make up as well. It makes for longer wear and prevents creasing and fading.

I use the Aveda chamomile shampoo and conditioner. It really brings out my blonde highlights in my reddish-blonde hair without making it look brassy. It also allows me to go longer between touch-ups. There's an Aveda store over the hill at Valley Fair, as well as salons in Capitola, Scotts Valley and Los Gatos (a bit far I know, but if you're going to Valley Fair, it's on the way) that sell Aveda.

I use MAC moisturizer. I'm allergic to lanolin, and MAC doesn't use any animal products in any of their products, so it's perfect. The only thing that would make it better would be if the moisturizer had SPF!

I use Philosophy's Hope in a Jar with everything (including my Bare Minerals). I love it.

I alternate between a bunch of shampos, but when I notice the blonde getting whack, I use Aveda Color Conserve.

Try one of the "color" (blonde, brunette, or redhead) shampoo and conditioners. I know Pantene and Redkin have lines but I'm sure there are more. That should help tone down the brassiness.

if you want to do it on the cheap- brew some chamomile tea- brew it so it is really strong and then when it cools down, pour it on your hair, massage it in and let it sit for a few minutes, then shampoo it out.

Has anyone used the shampoo powder stuff? Like, from Bumble and Bumble-it's in blonde, brunette, red, etc?

Beauty Addict had a big post on that - some people loved it, some people hated it. The consensus was that it's definitely something that takes a little finesse to master.

Redken's BLONDE GLAM is what you are thinking of- the purple stuff is their Pure Pearl. Put it on, leave for five minutes, rinse. It will take brassiness out- it is what my stylist uses on me- and she is also my best friend!
