Philanthropy Ideas!!
 

Sooo, every year we do a thing called "kicks for kidneys"...but it's not really that big because not that many of the sororities are involved in it...I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of philanthropies that could get other sororities/fraternities involved! here are examples of what people have already:

March Madness- dance competition between all greeks
Date Auction- auction off guys in fraternities
Beauty and the Geek- smart frat guys and pretty sorority girls
Camp Week- kind of like MTV's Road Rules with all greeks
White Rose and Foxy Lady- basically a beauty pagent, one girl from each sorority competes
ISU's Next Top Model - like the show

I know I'm missing some, but I just feel like all the good ideas are taken!! I'm trying to think of a funny reality TV show I could base it off of, but I'm all out of ideas! PLEASE HELP!!!

hi phisigsta - I'm new to these forums - but I was a DG at GWU, so our big philanthropy every year was Anchor Bowl (instead of Anchor Splash). I like your ideas for philanthropy - it seems you have some good stuff to get started on. Also, to help your organizing efforts, you should use ViewMyLife.com to save photos, share files and create group calendars in one place. I think it would be useful for your organizing efforts and to connect with your sisters in a different online space!

At my school we didn't model the philanthropies so much after reality shows, though I agree those are fun ideas. Some ideas used on my campus, sprinkled with others randomly:
Dodgeball Tournament
Four-square Tournament
Homerun Derby
Volleyball Tournament
Poker Tournament
Tug-a-War
American Gladiators (you could get one of those huge inflatable obstacle courses)
Rodeo Ride Contest (one year a chapter rented one of those mechanical bulls)
You could try a Derby Days-type week-o-fun (decorating contests, blood drives, penny drives, skit, etc)

Some that used to be done at my school that haven't been mentioned are:

Twister Tournament
Basketball or 3 on 3 tournament
Soccer Tournament
An American Idol/Star Search type of competition

I'm not sure if you are doing something to raise money per se, but what about having an Organ Drive, where you get people to sign up to be organ donors?

Talk to the DMV and see what you have to do to get it done. I believe that most states have Organ donation cards that can be filled out and then sent to the DMV, or have organ donor registries.

For everyone who signs up, give them something car-related, like air fresheners, bumper stickers, etc. You can create a cute logo with a heart or kidney driving a car.

If each house wants get involved, they can sponsor activities that involved "driving" - rent a driving video game unit, make little cars (like box car derby) and race them, have other sorts of "races".

Or, if a group has a philanthropy (like kidney disease, breast cancer), they can tie in their own philanthropic cause and donors (organs, bone marrow, blood, etc).

Have a Red Cross sponsored blood drive.

Just some thoughts if you wanted something different.
