CSU Pike member dies in chapter house

Authorities investigating CSU sophomore's death Coroner awaiting toxicology results BY TREVOR HUGHES TrevorHughes@coloradoan.com The death of a Colorado State University student remains under investigation as authorities await toxicology test results. Sophomore Matthew Martinez was found April 5 by his roommate at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, 1339 W. Mulberry St., according to police. ADVERTISEMENT No foul play was immediately apparent, and an autopsy was inconclusive, a Fort Collins police spokeswoman said. Pi Kappa Alpha was stripped in 2005 of its recognition as a campus fraternity after a history of trouble dating back more than eight years. The CSU student newspaper, citing unnamed police sources, said Martinez apparently died of a cocaine overdose April 3. Police spokeswoman Rita Davis said investigators do not consider Martinez's death suspicious, and she declined to comment on the possibility of a drug overdose. The Larimer County Coroner's Office is awaiting toxicology results, which might take up to six weeks. Last year, there were 35 accidental drug overdoses in Larimer County, with three attributed to cocaine, according to the coroner's office. |
What a terrible loss for so many people.
