First that comes to mind:

"Why go with the rest when you can go with the best!"

"Lambda Chi Alpha, a Brotherhood of men! "

I think I may have mentioned this in the old rush shirt thread. My favorite was the one we did in 1991, which simply said:

Front
/\XA
SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY

Back
Don't pledge a fraternity

(Cross & Crescent)

Join a brotherhood.

my favorite design was the year before I joined, so I never got one... :(

Front:
"Lambda Chi Alpha
Kettering University 2005"

Back:
"Associate with the best
Or pledge like the rest"

Ive always enjoyed the 'funny' shirts.....i.e.

Front: Lambda Chi Alpha Mechanics

Back: We Screw
We Nut
We Bolt

Or the little guy giving the thumbs up with te slogan 'Putting excitement back into sororities since 1909'

Or my favorite.

Front: Lambda Chi Alpha Brotherhood

Back: 'tighter than your little sister'

But these are just a few of my favorites, probably not smiled upon by authoritave figures though.

Stay away from anything "generic" that could be (and probably has been) used by any fraternity. They're cliche and lame, not to mention degrading to women in some cases. That's not who we are.

Get more specific. How about something with a bulldog, a helicopter, a motorcycle, and a Lambda Chi. Choppers!

No one else can use choppers but us. It's unique.

Trey,

I agree that these are "cute," but it's time they became a part of our history. In one of the sessions at Leadership Seminar in '07, Brother Ray Lutzky showed us a slide of the LXA Mechanics shirt. Most of us laughed our heads off. Then he asked us, what happens when one of our brothers is accused of a crime against a woman and the prosecutor shows the jury that shirt?

You know it's a joke. I know it's a joke. The jury may or may not see the humor. The way society has gotten, many people are too uptight to take a joke as a joke. And the way Hollywood portrays greeks doesn't help. A group of "adults" could easily see that shirt and come away with the idea that treating women badly is something Lambda Chi's do as a matter of course.

I think a good guideline for T-shirt designs is, "Would I be embarrassed if my Grandma saw this shirt?" If she would be, don't do it.

Obviously those are on the strong side of controversial shirts, and i would never suggest as a true chapter shirt. Maybe something to have personally made for yourself, but not on an official piece of clothing. I do think humor is something that should be utilized in a sensible slightly more conservative way, because humor does leave an impression. We all know that the shirts ive mentioned previously have been banned by some of the schools they were used at, just thought a little humor on the subject would throw that side into the mix as well.

Jono said it best with originality, thats the most important thing, cause that leaves a good impression too and forms your own identity about your chapter, and your group of guys.

I saw a recently-returned Gulf War vet @ the Y this morning, and he had one of his National Guard t-shirts on. How about this?

Loyalty
Duty
Respect
Service & Stewardship
Honor
Integrity
Personal Courage

Do YOU have what it takes
to be a TRUE BROTHER???

Throw that over a Coat of Arms or the Cross & Crescent and you've got one good-looking shirt. As Brother Lutzky pointed out in Memphis, we're not looking for any more beer monkeys...

GammaZeta 05-07-2008 11:37 PM

I'd have to go with Trey on this one.

The "a true brotherhood of men" is kinda old. Not catchy, not modern, and definately not attracting your normal 19 year old college student.

My favorite was "senoritas and margaritas"

We normally go with generic rush shirts, and they seem to be well received on campus. Everyone else tries to do flashy or humorous themes--we keep it simple. Our most recent one was dark green with silver writing. It had the cross and crescent on the top left with "Lambda Chi Alpha Spring 2008 Rush" and "Western Carolina University" on the sleeve. We also had the letters going down one side of the shirt. Some people didn't like it but most did. Never underestimate the power of simplicity.

I was in that session, and took a lot back. We do use a simpler design we try to create a brand image. We put the Cross & Crescent on tons of stuff, because if they cannot remember what upside "V" X and A mean maybe that will stick. Before we went my design was this:

________________________________________________
" What kind of Qualities do all Lambda Chi's Possess? "

Honesty
Understanding
Generosity
Eloquence
Compassion
Obedience
Caring
Kindness
Sympathy
_______________________________________________

Besides getting a laugh out of folks it really doesn't recruit well or reinforce the brand image we try to portray.
