For what reason.....?
The story in a nutshell:
I founded a collegiate organization ten years ago. We had a website on angelfire that has since been abandoned. It was probably 2002 or so when it was last updated. One of my classmates has been contacting me asking for her name to be removed from the website. I told her once before that I couldn't help her, but now she's being irritating. Here's her message (edited for privacy): Hey [Senusret I]! Wow - it really looks like you have been tremendously busy building out this __________ effort! what else is new? Can you please help me out? I am trying very hard to get a link to my name broken to the original ______ website that was created years ago. i Have even had a professional company try to go it but they say they cannot reach a webmaster. I need this done for professional reasons. Was this you or _____ or _______ or what? I would really appreciate any guidance. This is the website: www.________.com and the email listed is.......@ ....... Thanks in advance! ***** My response: I have told you before that I have no control over the ______ website. Judging by the last time the site was updated, I doubt that even the oldest of the undergraduates have access to it. I can't imagine what professional reasons would cause you to have your name removed from an activity you did ten years ago. I think it's best to let it go. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. ***** I know I was a bitch. Moving beyond that, can anyone help me understand a logical reason why someone would disassociate their name (not even a picture, a NAME) from a website from an activity they did ten years ago. For the record, this isn't like an abortion club, coke snorters anonymous, or anything like that. |
This does seem a little odd, especially if the group isn't something that's particularly controversial.

Without knowing what it is, I can't give you a reason. Sorry.

Both would be helpful if you happen to know. |
I don't know who she works for; the organization is a performing arts organization.
ETA: According to facebook, she's been a financial analyst with the same company since 2001. |
Yeah I really don't get it, I mean, unless it's like nude interpretive dance or something (HA).

Maybe she wants to be a secret agent and has to erase her past! :p

I considered that. But it seems easier to fake your death than to erase your past. |
Maybe she's getting stalked or something and is afraid the stalker will try to contact her through others on the website.
Or maybe she's in witness protection. If that was the case though, I think that the FBI could override whatever password protectors are on the site and just get her name off of it. I don't buy the "professional reasons" at all unless she's working for Fred Phelps or something and has to remove any association with OMG TEH GAY PEOPLE. |

Plus, if she was getting stalked, Facebook would be the last place she'd hide, LOL. |
