Legacy vs. Non-Legacy

Hi yall!

Im going to VSU in Georgia next year, and Im thinking about rushing, but I am split on what I should do.
I am a legacy, but Im not sure if that is the sorority I want to join...
Im so confused. And I would like to know if you join a sorority at one college and then transfer to another college like UGA, are you automatically transferred into that chapter, or is there something else you need to do?

Thanks for all your help!
:)

Being a legacy doesn't guarantee you a bid to that sorority. Conversely, being a legacy doesn't mean that you HAVE to join that sorority. My advice is to just go through recruitment and see what happens. Don't worry about the legacy thing and just focus on keeping an open mind to all of the sororities you see during the process.

Also, transfer policies vary by sorority and chapter. Girls aren't usually automatically accepted into a new chapter. There is usually a "get to know you" period to determine whether you are a good fit for the new chapter (since every chapter is different). Then the chapter will decide whether to add you as a member.

Also, some chapters (particularly large ones) are very limited in the number of transfers that they take on every year, especially if theirs is one that alot of girls try to transfer into. I'd imagine that the larger schools like UGA get alot of girls from other schools in GA attempting to transfer there.

I'd suggest actually going through recruitment before worrying about transfer issues since you actually have to get INTO a sorority before you concern yourself with that.

VSU's recruitment is pretty selective; I have had 3 daughters rush there. Please be open to your legacy chapter as well as the rest because you never know what will happen!

Also, lots of girls have pledged at Georgia's smaller colleges and found out that they weren't exactly welcomed with open arms at their sorority's chapter at UGa. (OK, they weren't welcomed at all.)If you know you're going to transfer, you might consider waiting to rush.

I'll have to second what Carnation said. Don't plan on the UGA chapter taking you if you transfer. All but one of the girls that I know of ended up having to go alum because they were not accepted by their GLO's UGA chapter.

And don't plan on what sorority you want to be in before you get to college, wherever you go. Legacy or not. You never know what will happen or what you will think about each chapter until you actually go through the process.

Gotta love UGA.

I'll say this much... one guy came through rush being a (triple?, a brother, two cousins) legacy. Based on his actions and the actions of his brother/cousin, we knew what to expect and didn't give him a bid.
