Wearing your badge on a 'Polo' type shirt.
 

Ok so what do yall think about wearing your badge on a 'Polo' type shirt (collar with typically 2 or 3 buttons). I thought i just read somewhere of someone doing this, and i know in earlier times students dressed alot differently. It wasnt uncommon for everyday wear to be a suit, or at least a shirt and tie.

Now it seems everyone is wearing dock shorts and polos, i guess technically a Polo is a collared shirt, but what do you all think.

Personally i dont currently practice this sort of thing, but im wondering if more people started doing, if it wouldnt bring back the popularity of badges.

If you saw the promo of a new member, he was wearing the Badge on either a polo or t-shirt and I said what?

I think it would be a wonderfull idea so that we as Brothers could wear our Badges more often instead of just a more formal type setting.

I wore mine one time at the chapter for F D on a sweater and it looked great.

We today are a lot less formal and showing our Badge would be great. It is after all a beautiful Badge.:)

This might be a good topic for the Committee on Emblems and Ritual; General Assembly is coming up in three months. Perhaps a note to Biff Holloway with a request that your thoughts be forwarded to the Committee would be appropriate.

I agree with John. It seems to me I was taught that it was inappropriate to wear a badge with "less formal" attire. On the other hand, that was along time ago, and standards of dress have changed a lot since then.

Tradition is great, but sometimes we need to look around us make sure we're still relevant to the world we live in. To paraphrase Darwin, if we don't evolve, we'll become extinct.

I would think it would depend on the dressiness of the polo and the pants you wear with it. A rugby-like polo with cargo shorts would be too casual to wear your badge, IMO. But a nice polo with khaki dress pants and nice shoes sounds ok.

Thanks Violet, guess i should have clarified a little better, but your description is spot on to what i was thinking of.

As I remember, one of the things was "NO PATCH POCKET" leg wear.:)

Trey, etal, I could see plain polo shirts (no t-shirts), but if it has LXA letters on it, I would say no as redundent or store and other logos would take away from the Badge.

I like the idea as I do not get to wear mine often enough.:(

FWIW, I wear the badge on my company polos (white or purple) when attending GLO conferences to promote my biz. It's primarily to show the attendees (no matter which fraternity/sorority they belong to) that I'm "one of them" (i.e. a GLO member). I've seen others wear their badges w/biz casual wear (polo & khakis) as well. However, I don't wear it on my denim shirt, even though it's worn w/khakis...

Bill, knowing what you do and very well I might add with your Bride, you wear the Badge, but you do not have your Company Logo on the shirts do you?

51st General Assembly Defined Proper Way of Wearing Badge

The 51st GA in Orlando passed rules for the proper procedure for wearing our Badge and the AM pin. Someone needs to check with Brother "Biff" for a copy of the procedures.

It might also be found in the Code Book. I don't have a current copy of the Code Book myself.

For the record, I don't think a person should wear an item of jewelry on a polo shirt.

But, hey, that's just me - old school....
