Hofstra Student Charged in Frat Brother's Assault

A Hofstra University student, enraged that a fraternity brother was dating his ex-girlfriend, enlisted four friends to help him kidnap and assault the romantic rival last week, Nassau police said Thursday.

But the victim, a 21-year-old fellow student and Zeta Beta Tau member who suffered a head wound after being pistol-whipped, told police he was just friends with the woman who dated Adam Schelberg, said Det. Lt. Raymond Cote.

"It was horrifying for this young man," Cote said yesterday. "He was beaten severely."

Schelberg, 22, of 29 Cow Lane in Great Neck, was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of assault, kidnapping, two counts of robbery, and criminal use of a firearm.
