Probate/Neophyte Show Consistency

This is directed toward those GLOs for which is is normal to have an event called a probate show/neophyte show/new member presentation.

Would you want probate/neophyte shows to look identical from year to year or would you want each line to have their own spin on things?

I'm just asking because on some campuses I'm acquainted with, the shows look EXACTLY the same from year to year and it's important for those orgs to hand down traditions exactly as they have been. Other places sing all the same songs and chants and only the outfits change.

Of course, i have seen shows where everything was different -- fatigues and masks one year, suits and sunglasses the next.

What say you?

I guess this really depends on how intake is conducted within a particular chapter/organization. For chapters/orgs that still "pledge in lines" as a crucial part of their intake process, I can see why the probate is different, as each line tends to be different and have different personalities. For chapters/orgs that no longer "pledge" or conduct intake in this manner, using the same outfits, etc. make sense.

I like to see a good mix of tradition and individuality.

None of the NPHC orgs "pledge" anymore but individuality/personality can still be expressed among the "line" or intake class. Assuming that only those who pledge can express such individuality is assuming that you know what's involved in the intake processes of such orgs. As for the probates, I'm sure that the probate tradition among some orgs/chapters is based on their pledging legacy.

I'm well aware that none of the NPHC orgs "pledge" anymore. Since Senusret made it a point to express "probate shows/neophyte shows/new member presentations" my reply was in terms of organizations that have presentations of their newest members, be they NPHC or not. I don't assume, nor do I care, what goes on in the intake processes of other organizations.

I have heard of organizations/chapters of organizations that do not want to appear as though they still pledge/pledge in a line (regardless of whether or not they do) and as such, their new member presentations tend to move away from the characteristics of what one may attribute to "pledging".

A combination of the traditional and new spin. But very honestly, with MIP there shouldn't be a lot of time for folx to be creating too much new spin.

everyone "pledges." not everyone goes through the hazing that takes place in some intake processes...

i think people need to start identifying the two as separate entities.

And I think if people are going to resurrect old topics, they should try to address the original point.

I like the "new spin", myself.
