new school, joining a sorority

I am transfering to a new school in june of this year. I know the school does not have any greek organizations at the school. I am not a member of any greek organizations myself. I was wondering would it or could it be possible to start a greek organization at the school I am transfering to even if I am not a part of this organization?

Are Greek orgs prohibited by the school? If so, you can't start anything.

If not, you could begin an interest group to affiliate with a national sorority, but it would behoove you to not use the sorority's colors, mascots, motto, letters or anything that would too closely tie you to that sorority.

This is assuming you're talking about a NPC sorority. If you are talking about an NPHC group I'll let one of the many lovely NPHC ladies on here take that one.

This thread has some links to threads where people have asked the same questions.

In short, you must contact someone in the school's administration about starting a sorority if the school doesn't already have them. You must have approval from them before you can start one.

Chartering a new chapter of a GLO is a lot of work but you must first find out if your school is open to it. If the school currently has no greek organizations (no NPHC, NPC, IFC), it's likely that they don't want greek life on their campus and the school has that right.

If you are still interested in joining after undergrad, you can pursue membership in one of the NPHC sororities or other GLO's that have Alumni Initiation.

Why should anyone start an interest group when they will not be able to charter a chapter? And no, NPHC orgs don't welcome this.
