spam faxes

Does anyone else get spam faxes sent to their work fax? What, if anything, have you done about it? It's been a problem in our office for years and we're trying to stop it. Does anyone know if there is a "do not fax" line similar to those "do not call" lines for telemarketers?

Wish I knew. My mom gets them all the time at home. I thought there was a law about in California a while back.

I had an employee get so fed up at one point he made a large, thick font page (to use lots of ink on their end) that said "Don't spam our fax! Take us off your list!", made about 30 copies to run through all together, and sent it back to whoever sent spam. If there wasn't a return fax #, he'd leave a voicemail or email or harrass them right back any way he could. I don't know that it was the best use of his time, but it seemed important to him and he enjoyed it. And the # of random faxes did seem to decrease over time...

We just call the unsubscribe numbers at the bottom. I started doing that when I began working here a year ago, and now we hardly get any.

Sounds like a potential project for our temp.

Yep, like Xylochick216 said, there is usually a number listed on the bottom in itsy-bitsy font that says something like "if you wish to be removed from our list, please call...". It only take a minute or so and it's worth it.

Sorry for the double post and the slight hijack...but does anyone know how to stop spam texts from coming in? I've only gotten a couple, but I'd rather not get any.

Calling that number doesn't necessarily mean you'll be taken off their list.

By calling that number and entering your fax number, you're letting that company know that someone's at that fax number. My boss says that you're basically registering your info with them...so we just throw the junk stuff away.

My library gets way too many of those. Often advertising mortgage rates or selling t-shirts in bulk. It's not just the public service floors in our branch- my previous branch did get those often as well.

Once someone representing some for-profit school asked the main reference number wanting me to give her all the fax numbers for all the branches so that she could invite people to an open house. I sent her to Public Relations instead- colleagues told me I did the right thing.

That's what happened in my office. We used to call the unsubscribe numbers, but it never worked, so we just throw them away.

That's what I started to do and it has helped big time. We do seem to still get them now and then. I also keep a file with the faxes and write on the date when I called to "unsubscribe." If they get crazy again I'll let the FCC know.

You want to know how much those companies care that they might get caught breaking the law? I teach in a jail 2 nights a week and the spam faxes absolutely pour in all evening.

I would guess that they already know the FAX number as they sent a FAX!

I am not sure about who is Your Boss now, but I always call the take off and do not get a FAX from them again!

Getting FAXs cost money as the film is not cheap!
