Your 21st Birthday
 

This is for all the (slightly) older GCers out there...what was your 21st (or 18th if the drinking/gambling age wherever you are) birthday like?

I just turned 21 this February (21 on 02.21.01 - pretty cool http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif ) My birthday was pretty low-key because I had a HUGE test the next day. It started at midnight with a trek to the grocery store for the first legal alcohol purchase. I got a bottle of champagne - but the cashier didn't notice it was my birthday. I think she just saw the year of birth as 1980 and waved me through. Then I went to my boyfriend's apartment, where we had champagne and cake with his roomates (he surprised me with the cake http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif).

The day of my birthday, I got lost as all hell looking for the DMV. After 3 hours I finally got it - and took an awesome picture!

The night of my birthday my mom and grandmother drove up to see me and we went out to dinner with my boyfriend. Then we (except for Josh - he's still only 20) went to the casino, where I won $50!!!

Actually, it was a looong weekend for me! Not intentional, though.

On my actual B-Day my adopted big sis dragged me to a pool hall in Buckhead so I could get drunk "responsibly." They started me off slow, but apaprently, I can take liquor well, so it was on to double shots of Goldschlager. I didn't feel anything at first, then I got INCREDIBLY HOT. So hot I decided to take my shirt off right there. Luckily Big Sis stopped me and sent me to the restroom to straighten up. She had to come get me, because, though I didn't know it, I spent an inordinate amount of time looking at myself in the bathroom mirror laughing. When she came in, I was literally pressed up against the mirror because it was so cold. LMAO@me

Two days later, my friends and I were having a Feb/Pisces party, and I was the DD, so I got to go buy the booze and watch everyone drink it, get nasty drunk, set up several shaggin rooms, and clean up after my vomiting then-boyfriend. What fun. I had to take four trips back and forth to the three campuses to drop people off.

I enjoyed the pool hall,t hough, and the party was live, til my X-man got drunk.

I just posted something in the let's drink! thread about this yesterday! i was wondering if this little tradition was popular at any other schools or with other people.

My boyfriend took some notecards to the bars with us and every shot I took, he wrote the time, the name of the shot and who bought it for me. Then, I signed my name below. You can imagine how my signature looked after the 13th shot! It's such a fun memento to remind me of the drinks I had, the friends who were there and how much fun it all was. Of course we have pictures, too, which also chronicle my untimely descent into a bleary-eyed drunken state. No pics of me, how do I say...praying to the porcelain god. Thank goodness!!

My 21 birthday was great it was on a sunday so we partied till I had to go to class the next morning(955am, lol) I threw a banging party, and just had a good time sharing my bday with all my friends and the people I care the most about http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif then on Monday got my ID changed so I can get that too fab front photo, then went clubbing all week with the gals, and showed off all week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My 21 birthday wasn't so exciting (I was living in Toronto and my boyfriend and I were so very poor!) We just sat around our apartment and drank Mike's and played cards with each other.

My 19th was amazing though (drinking age in NS is 19!) I started out at the Casino (lost $20 on the slots) then went to meet friends at JJ's (bar previously mentioned in the Let's drink topic...the one with Power hour dollar shots!) When I was 16, I had made a date with a friend that on my 19th birthday he'd buy me my first drink. Well, I thought he forgot, but he called a few days before and met me at JJ's and did get my first drink!

I ended up hanging out all night with some girlfriends and the brothers of Zeta Psi ( I wasn't in my sorority at the time....I pledged second semester...and my b-day is Dec 17) It was a blast!

I think my fave birthday was my last one (my 22nd). I have a friend in Boston who is 3 hours younger than me and I planned it so on my way home from Florida for Christmas I stopped in Boston for my birthday weekend. My friends had a Christmas/birthday party the day I arrived (the day before my b-day). Well at midnight, me and Mel had our first (of VERY many! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) birthday shot! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Went to bed around 5 or 6 ish....got up and started partying again! JuniorGrrl, I just noticed we share the same birthday, I was born 2/21/78... A good day indeed... though I've always wished I was born feb 29th, a leap year would be cool....

My 21st was an adventure, but the best part was going to some of my favorite places and revealing that I was legaly 21, they didn't know that the rest of the time I was using an "alternate" ID. Some of them were mad, but the rest of the B-tenders laughed and gave me free drinks. It's fun to be 21 twice...

Oh, dear. Thank heaven I was in summer school and everyone I knew wasn't there. I went out with another sister who might have had an even better time than I did. Things I remember about my 21st:

-2 men I had the HOTS for tending bar at Bar A and Bar B, and my sister calling hot man "B" when we got home

-Walking into bar "C" (our final destination) and seeing two girls I was friends with, sitting together. I was so amazed they knew each other! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

-Drinking a shot, then asking "What was that?" The answer: Southern Comfort. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

-The DJ (a very old friend) dedicating "I Want Your Sex" to me for my birthday. (Hey, it was the 80's)

-My friend Amy coming into the bar at midnight (her bday was the day after mine). That was the last thing I remembered.

Aftermath:

-Having a black & blue on the bridge of my nose the next day.

-Moaning in agony when my boyfriend (who had come up to see me) backed the car out of the driveway causing MOTION.

-Meeting a guy in class the second six weeks and him saying "Oh we've met before.....I played pool with you on your birthday." My thought...."I played pool on my birthday??"

Looking back over this...it's probably a good thing that particular sister and I are both relatively settled down and don't party together anymore. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

SuperXO, we do a similar thing at my school. I had a little notebook that I had to write in after every shot or drink...I wrote the name of the drink/shot and my name...it was quite humorous to look back. Apparently that night I attempted to play darts (with no success, thank goodness they were plastic ones). I also was rather loud when I got home because my Rho Chi acceptance and maual were under my door...yelling "Yeah Yeah Yeah" while running around my sorority floor.

I still have a year and 28 days until i am 21, but I have a question. My b-day often lands on Labor Day or the weekend. What do you do if you turn 21, but the DMV is closed when you want to get your license changed? Can you still get into bars even though your license says under 21 even though you aren't?

My 21st was fun but not as wild as I had planned. To begin with I had a test that lasted until 8pm that night http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif But my boyfriend flew down from Charlotte that day (I live in FL) and then group of about 15-20 of my sisters and friends went out to eat at TGIFridays. I had barely eaten a thing all day and I ordered a HUGE Long Island Iced Tea. I started feeling dizzy fairly quickly. Then the waiters came out to sing Happy Birthday to me and they had me stand on a chair--I thought I was going to fall over and my friends got a few lovely pictures from that. We were planning to go out to Tennessee St. (the strip with all of the college bars) to do my "rite of passage" waltz but it was storming sooooooooo bad. I did not want to walk around in the pouring rain just for the sake of getting drunk so we ended up back at my apartment ending with a low key celebration. Sometimes I wished I'd braved the storms but it was so nice to see my friends at that I'm glad I remember the evening.

On a different note..you don't have to get your license changed on your 21st even if it says "under 21". The bouncers will look at your DOB and see that it's your birthday. I didn't get mine changed until Christmas break (my b-day is Nov.16) and then only because my license was stolen!

My 21st birthday was quite typical.... Drank a lot, went from bar to bar and had different drinks. It was fun because it is the only time you will ever go to a bar and not have to pay for anything.

My 21st birthday celebration basically lasted about a week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif My actual birthday(friday) I went out with some friends in Tempe, because I was home for thanksgiving, same with saturday night..and didn't really get drunk either night..Then its a tradition in my chapter to make someone a paddle on their 21st birthday that you write all your drinks on it with the time and your signature(kind of like the notecards/notebook idea, only its a paddle) and go somewhere like bennigans, or applebees..THEN the following weekend my best friend took me to vegas..so basically I was partying the entire week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My 21st was on Thanksgiving!!! So my first legal drink was wine with dinner at home!!! Heck, I'd been doing that since I was 4!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

On the Saturday after T'giving, my then-boyfriend (now husband) took me to a restaurant that has over 100 beers on tap and serves beer by the yard. He wanted to treat me to a yard. We tried some samplers to decide what our yards would be, and the waiter didn't card us. But, when you order a yard or half yard, they take your ID as collateral - the glasses are very fragile and very expensive (around $60) and they want to make sure you pay for it if you break it. Well, of course the waiter saw the big red "Under 21" on my ID, that it was expired, and that it was out of state! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif But he took it anyway, and said "Happy Birthday - if I'd known I'd have carded you right off!"

AlphaSigLana - if you have a non-expired passport, carry that. Show your expired DL; if they won't take that, then whip out the passport.

My 21st was my best birthday by far. I had spent the entire weekend working with the basketball team at a tournament (Thurs-Sun). 2 of my sorority sisters picked me up at 11:30 and we started hitting the bars. Since it was a Sunday night, there weren't very many people out. Most of the bartenders made a big deal out of my birthday and I several times, I ended up with total strangers singing to me and buying me what drinks my sisters or the bartenders didn't. The best part about the night was that it was the first time I really connected with these 2 sisters (possibly b/c our inhibitions were down??) But it was a night I will definitely never forget.
The next night (my true b-day night!) my roommates took me out to dinner and we made the rounds to other bars (the town has something like 100+!). It was just great that I got to have such an awesome time and get to know so many people. ( I still see some of the people I met at the bars on those uncrowded nights!)
