Inviting fraternities to mix?
My chapter has this unofficial rule that we can't invite fraternities to mix with us, they have to invite us. When I asked why, someone said that if the fraternity invites us that means they pay for everything.
It would be okay if we did this half of the time, but this is our rule for EVERY mixer. Why not split the costs?? Are there a lot of sororities that do this on your campus? If you're in a fraternity, how does it affect your attitude towards them? |
I can't speak for everyone, but generally at the beginning of the year it is acceptable to do that, but towards the end we generally split the costs evenly. That would get real annoying real fast.

I've never heard of putting all the costs on one group for a mixer. Do all the sororities at your school do this?
|
As far as I know-just us :\ I mean I know we're having some budgeting issues but it seems a bit rediculous.

We generally don't pay for anything at mixers unless it's a weeklong, like for Greek Week or Homecoming, or if it's for Formal Bid or Formal Intiation. Otherwise, the boys pay for almost everything. For us, I think it's because we're not allowed to use chapter money to pay for alcohol, and that's the only real expense of a mixer, but for weeklongs and Formal Bid/Initiation we usually go all out with decorations and themes and stuff, so the girls pay for streamers, decorations, food, etc.
