Rush event ideas

I have just been elected rush chair and want to plan some new events besides the old wings pizza and football, flag football games, bowling, cigar nights, I have a few ideas but I would really appreciate some input. We have IFC Dry rush for those who are interested.

- Has anybody done a pig pickin'? we are in NC and I thought of this the other day.

Thanks.

Are cigar nights a staple for rush events at your school? What if there's a rushee your chapter is interested in that doesn't want to attend that event because he doesn't want to breathe the cigar air? On the other hand, I guess you are in North Carolina...

Cookout

A chapter at our school takes PNMs to go-carts, which is always really successful. Another chapter rents out the boys and girls club's gym and set up a really intense game of dodgeball with mats and tables to hide behind and music and strobe lights to give it a video game-like kind of atmosphere. The chapter provides white t-shirts and each team decorates theirs with their team name. It's very successful too.

I suggest not doing any of these ideas.

I understand, yes they are good ideas but fraternities on my campus get made fun of for doing this sort of thing, and it turns rushees off. It's different elsewhere, so if it's okay at your campus, continue to do it.

Do Cigar Nights...I'd suggest cookouts like Phi Gam said. Lot of beer, invite alot of girls, and enjoy the outdoors.

The OP said that his rush was IFC DRY rush. Are you suggesting his org should break those rules?

A driving range is a good one. If the rushees can't play golf for whatever reason you can hang out in the clubhouse.

Dry rush can mean different things to different campuses perhaps.

Arkansas' dry rush would mean that you can't drink during the actual rush process (the parties and so forth), but at different rush events you can. Semantics, really.

Even if it is "dry", I suggest bringing a handle of whiskey to anything.

Good way to weed out who can't play golf (aka who isn't getting a bid) early on.

Anyone who shows up in a Green Blazer gets an automatic bid

Not having a sense of humor is trying too hard, ball yourself.

Whatever happened to just having it catered and having a live band play, and then standing around talking to rushees at the house?

Elephant Walk 03-13-2008 03:33 PM

This turned into an FH-style thread real fast.

we have a slip-n-slide and a live band at our house on certain days. we also cookout. WE have these soccer/golf nets that we hit golf balls into. We also get the rushhees to play bacci ball with us. it's alot of fun.

Screw nets, hit them at other houses. Bocce ball is the sport of kings.
