What Happens if I Transfer . .

Hey Everyone,

I could really use some advice right now. Currently, I am a freshmen KD, and I absolutely LOVE everything about this organization. My sisters are the best, and my chapter is highly regarded on campus. However, academically I am having a change of heart. After much deliberation and thought, I have decided to change my major. However, the change is such that my parents are no longer willing to pay $40,000 a year when I can receive the same degree at a school more than half the cost that has a better reputation for my new field. While I respect their decision, and know in my heart it makes the most logical sense, I am crushed to think about leaving my current school. But, my question to you all is this: what happens with KD? My new school does not have a Kappa Delta Chapter. I have not spoken to my sisters yet because this is all relatively new and I'm still discerning my decision making . . . but what would happen? Would I have to resign? Would I be indefinitely inactive? Any thoughts of suggestions would be VERY helpful.

AOT

As far as I know you would just be given alumna status. It's best that you get an official answer though by talking to someone on CAB or by calling HQ.

You go alum. Happened to my first little and one of my best friends in my chapter.

Ok . . that's what I was hoping for. If I would ever transfer back (or to another school that has a KD chapter) then I would still be elegible to be a member, correct? Thank you both for your answers!

You can affiliate with that chapter, but you need to check with National Headquarters for a precise answer about that. I believe if you go to a school with a chapter of KD and want to affiliate with them, they reserve the right to say "no" if they feel you don't "fit" with their chapter. Again, check with National HQ for exact rules on this issue, however. Good luck!

One of my sisters is leaving our chapter to transfer to a more affordable university as well. Even though she's leaving the chapter (and going alum), we have pledged to keep her updated and informed on all of our chapter's happenings. She even asked to stay on our chapter e-mail list! It's going to be hard, but no matter how far away you go you can take KD with you. Just be open about your situation with your sisters and try to stay connected in all but the physical sense.
