A crazy thing happened to me

A crazy thing happened yesterday morning on my way to work in downtown St. Louis. I had just turned left onto a two-lane highway on my way to work. It was about 5:45 a.m. and to my left going the opposite way down the highway a black car is on fire - the whole front in flames and all I see as I am driving is what looks like an old woman trapped in the passenger side of the car.

The driver is outside of the car and no one else is there.

So, immediately I grab my cell call 911 as I pull off the highway. I run across the highway still talking to an operator. By that time two more cars had stopped and the other passenger had gotten out of the car unhurt. Turns out he was a 18-year old or about that age guy with crazy hair.

So, I finish up my call and ask if everyone is okay. They (the driver and passenger were both teen guys) weren't too friendly and said they were fine, but I can understand them not being in the best mood.

So I went back to my car and went back to work.

Ever since then I am still picturing what could have happened - worst case scenario. Its a little creepy - thanks for listening!

WoW...That is crazy. I'm glad you called for help and went to see if they were okay. Most people go about their day without any concern for others...especially when it comes to driving to and from work.
Good Job.

How exciting! It was nice for you to stop!
I agree with Hootie; that most people wouldn't even give it a second glance!

Living in the desert during the summer, I've seen lots of Car-B-Q's! They're crazy... you never know if the gas tank is gonna go!

Dang! I dont know If I told you all this story (I have gotten to that point in my relationship with GC, that I am beginning to tell the same stories over and over) but a few years back we were on our way to the grocery store about 10 PM one night during pre-rit week, and the freeway passes right by campus. Well, I am in the passanger seat and look over to campus, and see smoke pourign from in front of the library. I knew it wasnt maintenance burning brush, because you cant get them to do ANYTHING after 3pm on a friday, so we exited, did the turnaround, and went back. There was a car on fire in the parkign lot. Of course, there is the first thought "God I hope no one is trapped in there." So I run to the emergency phone and call camus police. THe dispatcher was obviously taken aback by what I was saying, because she was like, "WHAT?!?!" I repeated that there was a car on fire in front of the library, and she was like, "Where in front of the library?" I was a bit of a smart ass, because its a stupid question. I told her,"Well, its pretty much the only car ON FIRE in front of the library." <lifesaver wondering where the Police are by this point> So she tells me to say there (the gas tank then goes) I tell her to go to hell and back away. Finally, about 10 really outta shape officers come running over wheezing, and huffing out of breath, and tell us, "We could smell sumthin' burnin', but we couldnt find nuthin." Yeah. anyway, no one was in the car, and it had been stolen and ditched there, but it was a crazy experience.
