New SDT chapter needs help with recruitment!

Hey everyone!
I'm the VP Recruitment for the Mu Chapter of Sigma Delta Tau at USC. We are brand new and this fall will be our first time participating in formal frills recruitment. Obviously, there is a lot of work we need to do, but one of the first things is to start collecting songs and chants. So far we only have a couple, and we need a lot for each party of recruitment!
If any SigDelts at other chapters could let me know their songs and chants, that would be fantastic and SO much help!!!
Also, even if you are not a SigDelt and you have a cute/catchy song idea, feel free to throw it my way! We are basically starting from scratch, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much and SigDelt love!
Sarah

Hi, Sarah,

I recommend contacting the Los Angeles Alum League, if there is an active one, for assistance. The Mu alums will probably be part of it as well as UCLA alums. They should have wonderful ideas for skits, songs and chants. Also, your chapter advisor can direct you to those who are prepared to help.

We used to create original skits and songs using familiar melodies. If you have any creative members, now is the time to pick their brains. There are TV shows to parody, Broadway musicals to emulate and pop songs to use as a base. You need creative writers, good, strong voices, lyrics, costumes and decorations all attached to the same themes. Humor is always effective. We once did a skit with one member portraying The Statue of Liberty, holding her Torch high for all to see. You need a great costume sewer for that! If you can write a few songs around that theme, it will stand out in the minds of your PNM's. For pref round, I suggest a beautiful song encompassing what SDT means to the members. If it is sincere, PNM's will feel it.

Remember to make the PNM's feel important...do your research about them, remember their names and make them glad they are participating in your recruitment. Stress the opportunities for leadership development a new chapter offers...a chance to shine on campus. Wear your letters and Torch badges. Believe me, the Torch is so unique as a badge, it attracts attention wherever you go.

Best of luck to MU chapter in its first recruitment. You have over 90 years of success behind you as a sorority. You may be new on your campus, but SDT has been around a long time with an excellent reputation. Be proud and it will show.

I would look at this thread. There are two songs listed in there. Other than those, maybe use the search function and search for "songs" or something like that and see what you come up with.

going to second everyone the two sisters above me said :)

We did a lot of what Paula is suggesting...take Broadway tunes, popular songs, etc and change them as we needed them!

Good luck!

Sarah,

Before anything else, congrats! I know you're asking for advice on how to start your recruitment, but I'm curious as to how you became colonized. What was your local sorority like? I'm Vice President of a local trying to recolonize our Beta Rho chapter at UVA in Charlottesville, VA, and we're in our 2nd year, and I'm just trying to emulate what successful locals have done to become colonized! Anyone with advice?

Thanks!

Hi there! I was the last president of the USC local chapter before we recolonized the Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Tau. I'm so excited to hear that you're interested in recolonizing a chapter at UVA. Feel free to message me and I'll be happy to give you all the info I can :)

I was just elected VP Recruitment of the Delta Eta chapter and am looking to revamp out recruitment. Right sisters are having trouble remembering information about PMNs making membership selection take FOREVER!

Our chapter has about 40 girls and we have almost 600 pnms going throught FR.

I would love any ideas on how to make things run smoother. Also, any recruitment workshop ideas would be awesome.

I have become seriously addicted to this site.
