Hospitality Sorority, anyone interested?
 

Hi, everyone. I am working on forming a hospitality based social sorority for students in hospitality management programs. A lot more schools have these programs now and 70% of students in these programs are female. There are other clubs/organizations for us, but most, if not all, are geared towards networking, business, and academics. There are not "social clubs or organizations". I have spoken with university officials and, as with many other posts that I have seen on here, my school does not recognize local glos. It doesn't have to be a part of NPC or anything, but we would have to have a national governing office. I know businesswomen that would be willing to oversee the national office, but we have to find girls in other hospitality programs that would be interested in helping us form this new sorority. I know it's a lot of hard work and will take time, but I figured this would be a good place to start. Any ideas? Thank you!

Have you looked at Cornell? They have a big school of Hotel Administration. If anyone has started one, they would have one there.

It looks like there is/was a co-ed hospitality fraternity at Purdue, though it looks like the website may not have been updated in quite some time so I don't know if the contact info will work.

ETA: I also went and searched Purdue's student organization site. It looks like the org is now listed as Pi Gamma Theta/Eta Sigma Delta and is described as a professional society for students in hospitality management.

I'm a Hospitality and Entertainment Major and was looking to for a Hospitality Fraternity. I've been to busy to get started but I was told to see if any of the professors, deans, or the director of the program are greek and see what they think.

Here's a question -- why do you need a social organization for only 1 major? Unless you come from a school with a massively big Hospitality Mgmt Major base, you really are limiting your membership at each school.

There are many coed business fraternities that cater to all business majors. (I've seen the 'hospitality mgmt' majors usually in business schools)

I'm a member of one of them, and having seen the way we operate on several campuses here in Texas, the chapters generally do a lot of social things in addition to having the "business" aspect.

Even if you decide to create a seperate "social" hospitality sorority, what is really the purpose of it? Social sororities have mixers with fraternities on their campus ... is that something this social group will be participating in? If not, what will they be doing?

Thanks for all the responses so far. I found Pi Gamma Theta at Purdue in my research too. I have emailed them and will be seeing if they want to expand to my school, so that may be an option. As far as limiting it to "hospitality", our school actually does have a strong base of hospitality students....I believe it is the second largest in the country to UNLV. We have about 2300 students. The Office of Student Life suggested I petition to see how much interest there actually is. From asking only two classes I got over 50 signatures...and that was limited to females. If we expand from Pi Gamma Theta, it would be co-ed.
