Getting a bid as a sophpmore at the UofM_____?
Hi Ya'll
I am sooooo excited i found this website. Last Spring (07) I received an invite to a Take A Peek Go Greek day. My mom and I went and I totally fell in love. I couldn't wait for fall recruit. But over the summer I received a state office in another organization and was unable to rush do to too many conflicting dates i would have had to choose which one to do and give up the other so i did not rush. i couldn't rush during informal either for the same reason. so here i am now reading threads and getting siked for fall recruit. but as i have read many stories and posts many people say that sophomres have a hard time getting a bid. so my question, does anyone know is it hard to get a bid as a sophmore at a southern school? |
GOOD LUCK!!!!
i'll be rushing as a sophomore too .. i took a semester off to the disney college program and took one class... so officially i am still a sophomore.. but won't be disclosing my school until after rush in the fall ... but like i said before GOOD LUCK!!!! |
I don't think it's totally impossible to get a bid as a sophomore at Memphis. You have to be open minded to all chapters though and not get your heart set on any one of them.
I think there are some Memphis sorority alumnae here who can tell you more about Greek Life there than I can. |

Thank ya'll so much for replying its good to know I have someone I can talk too who knows more about this then I do.

I don't know about your school and what GLO's are there, but I do know that for mine, sophomores CAN go through formal recruitment with limited problems. The only problems they tend to run into are issues with the strict silence policy (especially because my school is so small and as a sophomore you'll probably have quite a few friends in the different GLO's).

You might want to ask a mod to change the thread title to U of M____ (whatever school you're at) because if it's Memphis, that might not be the first school most people think of when they hear U of M.

I'm a sophomore at Memphis and I just joined during Continuous Recruitment this semester... I'd love to answer any questions you have!

I'm not a sophomore at a southern school, but at Indiana and our recruitment is fairly competitive. I say go for it!! You won't know until you try, I was so nervous to rush as a sophomore, but in the end it worked out : ) Just don't listen to all the negativity about being older, I know it brought me down for awhile, but as soon as I just let it all go and tried to enjoy the process, I really did!! GOOD LUCK!!! : )

thnx so much for the encouraging words. i cant wait for the process to begin. i am counting down the days and my parents are getting really excited for me. they couldn't believe it when i told them i wanted to join a sorority. i am not someone you would think would join a sorority but when i went to preview day with my mom last spring we both fell in love with the groups. i love being around other people and have always be busy with volunteering around my community. i know this will be an experience of a lifetime and cant wait to start a new chapter in my life.

Good luck, keep us posted how recruitment goes and what chapter you end up joining! :)

Hey girl,
It's great to hear that you definitely want to go through here. In my rush group, we had 2 juniors and 4 sophomores. Upperclassmen rushing is highly encouraged. |
I am so happy to hear that.

You should definitely go through recruitment. Keep an open mind. I am an adviser at a CA school and we have MANY sophomores, juniors and even seniors taken as new members. Over the past few years, we have had probably more sophomores than freshmen in some of the new member classes. It is about being yourself and finding the place where you feel comfortable. You might be surprised at how your "favorite" house changes from night to night. I wish you nothing but the best of luck.:)
