Honors Society

Hi Everyone-

At my school we have the Order of Omega Greek Honors Society which allows all Greek Letter organizations to become members. The problem is that we have a Fraternity on our campus that is not a Greek letter organization therefore they would not be allowed into Order of Omega. Does anyone know of another honors society that would allow all fraternities and sororities, and not just Greek Letter Organizations?

Thanks!

Are they not considered greek by the school's standards or is it like Farmhouse or Triangle? Honest to goodnees greek groups without the letters.

They are an African Fraternity.

I did a search and I couldn't find anything. I know there is an honor society for fraternity men called Tau Mu Sigma. And I am pretty sure there is one for sorority women.

Maybe your campus could petition Order of Omega for an exemption or clarification?

Do you mean they are NPHC? Or am I just confused? NPHC groups do join Order of Omega, I believe....

Using the context of her posts, I imagine she means an actual African fraternity such as Malik, KMT, or Shemsu Heru.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean. On our campus we have the traditional Greek Organizations, and we also have an organization that is associated with African Fraternilism.

Thank you for the help!

I'm the President of my school's Order of Omega; with regard to your question concerning the limitations on membership, only members of social fraternities and sororities may join.

I should clarify this a bit more, this typically means individuals who are members of organizations that are in a campus's IFC, NPC, NPHC, or MGC. At my school, we have an Inter-Greek Council, so when I rewrote our by-laws, I set that as the requirement, although for an organization to be in IGC, they must be a member of one of the four sub-councils that I listed above.

Overall though, what Order of Omega considers to be Greek is what your campus recognizes as Greek through the governing councils for fraternities and sororities.

I think honorary members are not required to be Greek though, but I could be wrong about that.
