Slush funds
Currently my place raises all alcohol funds via a slush fund among all the members, and I'm pretty sure thats how it is at all of the places on my campus. I'm just wondering if at other fraternities across the nation if that is how you put together your alcohol funds or if you've found a more national office friendly way of getting alcohol for events. It's not that it isn't working, we get the money and the booze, but if theres a successfull way of doing it while lowering the risk it would be greatly appreciated to give me some ideas.

Cash leaves no paper trail, but obviously, there's the opportunity for fraud.

we usually ask every brother for about 5 bucks per party that covers it

At the beginning of the semester we collect a social fee from all brothers, it usually runs around $50 a semester and that money is kept by the President. That way the most trusted person in the fraternity is accountable

We have something along the lines of BetaGuy has. Our IFC doesn't allow us to use chapter funds for social events. What we do is collect a social fee at the beginning of the semester (usually around $150-$200) which covers exchanges, Barndance (in the fall), formal (in the spring), and our semesterly after-hours parties. This money is kept in a personal bank account (we use Chase) in the name of our External Vice President. This is how most houses on our campus do things. Yes, there's always the possibility of fraud, because it's in the name of one member of the chapter, but taking that risk is far better than getting put on probation by IFC.
