Chapter Transfer?
 

I may be asking a repeated question, but here goes anyway.

I was originaly a founding sister of Eta Omicron at UNF last spring . But for family reasons i had to move back home to California , and have since kept in contact with my ELC and such. We talked and i guess i have two options i can recieve alumna status when i graduate or i can transfer into a new chapter at my new school which will hopefully be UCLA in the fall since i have basically taken a year off because of my what has happened.

Just wondering if anyone has had transfer experiences? I know its a long and tiring process but i miss theta alot and its hard not being around all my sisters.

Does anyone have any information about transferring chapters that might help her out?

We had a couple women affiliate with my chapter when I was in college - one seemed to enjoy our chapter quite a bit and even held a VP position. I hope the ELC explained to you that affiliating with the new chapter would not be automatic -there's a process you have to go through and it can take up to a semester to get affiliated.
I'd suggest reading the bylaws to find out what it all entails. I'm not trying to discourage you from affiliating (as one of those affiliated sister is one of my closest friends), I just want you to be aware that there's an affiliation process. I'd also recommend contacting the president of UCLA (or whichever school you pick) as soon as possible to get the ball rolling. If you haven't already, you might want to contact headquarters with any questions you might have about affiliation. Both women that affiliated with my chapter talked with HQ about the various questions they had prior to contacting my chapter.

Don't feel pressured one way or the other-there's no obligation on your part to affiliate!!

With affiliation, the most important thing to figure out is if you fit in with Theta on your new campus. Once you commit to that new chapter by by filling out the affiliation paperwork there's no backing out. You are expected to participate through graduation with that new chapter just like at your old campus. You can't go back to being an unaffiliated member.

This also means that if they have a facility on your new campus, you will be expected to live in that facility just like any other member.

As an adviser and fraternity officer, I've seen both successful affiliations, and ones gone awry, mostly because the affiliate didn't figure out until too late that the chapter wasn't right for her.

Is she considered to have alumnae status if she chooses not to affliaite?

I think that until her class graduates, she would not be considered an alumna.

She would considered an "unaffiliated" member. There's a definition for this category w/in the theta laws. It's pretty specific actually. Just had to consult it for a chapter when trying to define alumna vs. unaffiliated..
