"Nightmare" to haunt big screen again
Freddy's back. Again.
New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie series, the franchise that helped establish the studio. The first "Nightmare" movie was made by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The runaway success of the film spawned a slew of sequels and created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund. The film centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burned face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams. A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The producers -- Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- are hoping to focus part of the new movie on Krueger's backstory. Platinum Dunes is prepping another re-launch, "Friday the 13th," which will be directed by Marcus Nispel for New Line, for whom it remade "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its sequel http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/va/2...166862400.html |
I love scary movies and A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of my favorite series. (Especially Part III)

I love the freddy movies and would definitely go to theaters to see another one.
I think Freddy v. Jason was the last one out, and I thought it was nicely done. What does a "re-launch" mean? Are they remaking an original or adding another sequel? |

I really hope wes craven directs the new one. The best of the freddy movies, the first and "new nightmare," were directed by him.

I believe it's a remake/reboot of the original. However when I first heard about it, they said they weren't going to go so much on the back story since Halloween was getting blasted for focusing too much on Michael Myers' childhood. Not none, just not so much. We'll see how that goes.

I'm already disappointed. :( This isn't from the most credible of sources but it may be accurate.
http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008...el-bay-to.html It's unclear whether or not they will remake the original, but it doesn't sound like Craven will be a part of it -- or even Freddy himself (Robert Englund). Platinum Dunes is also working on a relaunch of the Friday the 13th series. According to Variety, "both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel-directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." |

If there's anything Rob Zombie has taught us, don't mess with a good thing. |
I liked Rob Zombie's Halloween. :(
Not the scariest thing in the world but it told a story. |

I thought I wouldn't like Rob Zombie's version of Halloween, but it was better than I anticipated. I wonder what this "re-launch" will have to offer though. I love a good horror movie and the most recent ones have had me laughing more than anything. I had a good little chuckle after seeing One Missed Call, I might go check out Jessica Alba's movie this weekend (still contemplating). |
nothing beats the original
i loved the series except the 2nd movie---ick! robert englund is the best. he is freddy.
i wish there was some orginality left in hollywood. englund is and always will be krueger. |
