Formal Recruitment - 3 Party Pref Night?
Hi!
I am currently on our Collegiate Panhellenic Council. The position I have also serves on our Recruitment Exec. We want to propose having a 3 party pref night. Currently we have a 2 party system. I am looking for some resources/statistics on this issue. If it helps, I attend Iowa State. The number of women we have going through recruitment each year averages 300-350. Our complete sorority community is home to approximately 1000 women. I have heard that we are one of only 4 communities of this size still doing a 2 party pref night. If anyone has any information, or knows where I can obtain some on a 3 party pref night, I would be most appreciative! |
I would think you could get this kind of information from NPC.... ???

There are a lot of campuses that do a 2 party pref night. How many chapters are on your campus?
|
contact florida state and the university of florida panhellenics. both those campuses do 3 party prefs. and have for many, many years.
i believe that auburn, alabama, georgia and texas hold 3 party prefs. too. |
Just an open question... I had always thought that campuses based the number of pref parties on the number of chapters on campus, or at least it seems that way. Those I am familiar with follow that rule: 12 and up seem to be 3 parties; 8 and under seem to be 2 parties (Ole Miss might be the exception here). At least this is my observation.

I concur with nittanyalum, you and your Greek Advisor should contact your regional NPC rep. They will be able to assist you with the change you're considering and how it relates to NPC.
You didn't state why you want to increase the parties, is it in the hopes of increased matching for PNMs or another reason? |
I always thought they based the number of Pref parties on the amount of PNMs going through Pref - on my campus, one chapter may have only 1 pref party, while another chapter may have up to 3.

This is exactly what your NPC Area Advisor is for. If you don't know who she is, you can look it up in the directory on www.npcwomen.org
What is your current party flow? e.g., the PNMs start with all houses #? then to to 6, 4, and finally 2? |

When I originally rushed at Washington University in St. Louis there were 6 chapters. We were able to go to 2 pref parties. One chapter closed and by the time I was a senior, girls were able to go to 3 pref parties even though there were only 5 chapters. Wash U now has 6 chapters again and still does 3 pref parties. |

That's what I get for assuming, but you gotta admit, it makes sense. |
My school has 7 sororities and maybe 120 PNMs rushing, and we had 3 pref parties up until 2006. Our NPC area rep decided it was best with the size of our system to just move to 2.

NPC Area Advisors by state

This is definitely a decision that should be made in consultation with your NPC Area Advisor and even your RFM Specialist. They will take a look at size of campus, number of PNMs, chapter sizes, average quotas, etc. They will also look at return rates and the relative recruiting strength of each chapter. When you start adding more Preference parties for PNMs to attend, it will affect the RRS of the chapters.
