Pledge a second time

If I depledged from a fraternity, can I pledge again like a year later for the very same fraternity?

Generally speaking, it depends on the fraternity. From what I've seen in my boyfriend's fraternity and my sorority, yes you can. You'd have to speak to the rush chair of that fraternity, though.

You would have to check with the fraternity's membership chair. Rush isn't the same as pledging.

No one on GC is qualified to answer your question unless he's familiar with that fraternity's membership rules. Consult someone off-line instead.

I would assume that it's one of those things that goes on a case-by-case basis. There is a different between stopping pledging due to an illness or family situation and stopping pledging because you got really drunk, slept with the president's girlfriend and punched him out.

Agreeing with previous posters, it depends on the fraternity, but generally yes you can. The chapter though would have every right to evaluate why you depledged in the first place, and whether or not that issue / those issues has/have been resovled before offering you another bid.

Sometimes it's harder to get a bid the second time around.

For example, one local sorority I know of has a rule the first time, to get a bid you need a majority vote. If you depledge and want to re-pledge, you need a at least a 75% vote from the actives, which is very hard to get because a lot of them might feel betrayed.

Beware of that

I know of a guy who was a pledge off-and-on for SIX YEARS. No joke; the guy pledged before I started college, and was ultimately initiated after I had graduated.

Rather an extreme case, but depending on the org, it's entirely possible.

Unless, of course, you were asked to depledge on account of putting an airsoft gun up to a brother's temple and screaming at him. (Same house.)
