Man throws toddler off highway overpass to his death

I was stuck in traffic for 2 1/2 hours shortly after Baby Cyrus died. They closed off about 3 miles of the H-1 so traffic on the surface streets were a nightmare.

I remember being so pissed off that I was late for an appointment. A lot of drivers were pissed off. And then the radio announcer broke the news, barely completing his sentences because even he was choked up. And then all of a sudden anger turned into sadness.

All of a sudden we had no right to be angry because a 2 1/2 year old was dead. And no one knew who he was. I frantically called the BF because his son's 2 1/2 years old and lives near the victim and suspect. I thanked God that it wasn't Max.

Most of us didn't even know Baby Cyrus or his family, but it doesn't matter. Words can't express what I feel each time I pass under the Miller Street Overpass every day since then. I cried on my way home Thursday evening.

Moms and dads, please hug your children a little tighter tonight.

This is horrible :( Human actions never cease to amaze me anymore. I'll be keeping this young boy's family in my prayers.

OMG! I read about this and damn near fell out of my chair. I hope this mutha f*cker goes under the jail!

Of course, after he is locked in a room with inmates who can't see their kids. Just let them have one hour with his ass

Skinned alive I say and swimm with eels. Regardless of that I hope that the family some how finds peace in such an awful time.

One hour? I give him 5 minutes, especially if the cops accidentally on purpose stick him in a cell with some giant Samoan who misses his family.

(I am starting my 20th year teaching evenings in a jail. I know whereof I speak!)

That is so incredibly sad :(

I hope and pray that the rest of the baby's family can somehow find peace during this troubling time :(

This poor child - if you read about the history of his too-short life, he's had it rough all along. Hope he is at peace now.
I can't think of any punishment horrible enough for the sick individual who did this. Well, I can think of a few . . .

Poor, poor baby....

P.S. Why doesn't GC have a "crying face" b/c that's what I want to use right now

The whole story is disturbing and horrific. Not only do I pray for that little baby, I also pray for the driver of the car who could not stop in time and will haunted by this incident for the rest of his/her life.

The murderer and his father lived next door to Baby Cyrus and his family.

They say Matthew Higa (the murderer) suffered from mental illness and that he did it to "save the baby from his drug addict parents." Baby Cyrus' father is incarcerated and he lived with his mom, her boyfriend, and his grandfather.

A lot of stuff still doesn't make sense. Apparently Baby Cyrus was seen wandering around in the neighborhood by himself and when police found him early in the morning, they returned him back home. Why they didn't call CPS, I don't know.

They couldn't get a hold of his mother for 7 whole hours. How the hell? Was she under a rock Thursday afternoon? How could she not call to see if the baby was hers? Shit, even I called my BF to make sure that his son was okay.

The memorial started on the overpass has since been moved out of view from passing motorists underneath because there was just too much debris hitting cars. That memorial's unbelievable. Thousands of people have visited it to pay their respects since Thursday, including myself. His death has made quite an impact on a lot of us.

Two women were victims of domestic violence in the first two weeks of the new year and now this. They'll be holding a candlelight vigil at the State Capitol today.

RIP Baby Cyrus Nainoa Belt.

My nephew once got out of my mother's townhouse during his naptime (he was 2). My sister had a helluva time convincing the police not to take him - and she is obviously not a druggie. Heck, she was THERE - they didn't have to search for 7 hours. I really, really do not understand the police action (or lack thereof) in this case. It would seem to scream "CPS!"

I just read this post. Unfortunately I thought it was about the guy who got upset with his wife and threw their 4 children off a bridge last week. What is up with the people? It makes me very sad to hear things like this.
