Work blues
OK, I already have an extreme case of working blues, and today was my first day!!!!! HELP, what do you do when you don't even feel like working anymore? Ughh, I'm just so tired and frustrated. I feel like crying!

1.) Remind yourself its only temporary - just a summer job.
2.) Think about the cool stuff you can get by making your own money 3.) Weigh the benefits against the troubles and see if its worth it. I've decided to quit my job because my hours are so few, and when I am actually scheduled, its nights and weekends. I'll probably clear $400 for the whole summer. Not to mention, the manager is a jerk and the assistant manager is younger than I am, but has a MAJOR attitude. I guess I have trouble with someone who's younger than I am and who has less education than I do talking to me like I'm stupid. I'm not going to college to have people talk down to me for 5.40/hr. Ugh http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif |
focus on the positive, either the pay, the coworkers, or the other benefits your job offers. we all gotta pay our dues sometime, it's why we go to college. a summer stocking shelves did more to inspire college than a whole year of guidance counselor dribble.
i try to find the funny stuff in my job, take the insanity and turn it upside down and laugh at it. every day at my job is a new story to be told later with my friends, and i've had some nutty stories over the years. keep a stiff upper lip, and slog through it, you can make it. |
When work gets you down...just think about me, and my crappy job.
I verify information over the phone for Visa cards and also call asking for donations for childrens charities. This job wouldn't be so bad except the hours are from 4:45 to midnight 4 days a week, noon till 9:30 on Sundays, and 1 to 11:30 on Mondays. It gets to the point were it is just hilarious working there. I think of it as not harassing people, but rather they are my entertainment, and I get paid to listen to thier sob stories and having them tell me to go to hell all day. It is a real self-esteem booster. |

Your job sounds like mine, except I don't do the calling - I take calls. I am working customer service for online retailers (cole haan, elisabeth, armani exchange, Universal Studios.) But I hear plenty of sob stories, but also get reamed for things I have no control over. Its not bad, and it is only a summer job and it pays the bills. But I wouldn't wish it on anyone. ------------------ Too many times we stand aside and let the waters slip away. 'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow has now become today. Ahhh! I have only been at work for 35 minutes and have spoken to the rudest people about policies that are posted online and available to them. I am going to go crazy if the rest of the day is like this!

Hang in there newbie. Whenever you get down, just think about something that makes you happy to keep you going. Or you can always count the days till school starts again http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Is this your first job newbie?
I HATED my first job. I was working at the Broadway (department store)--and for years afterwards I swore you could blindfold me and put me in any Broadway anywhere and I would know it by the smell. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Retail, UGH! |

Thanks you guys who gave me advice http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.
Yes, amy, this is my first job http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif . I mean, it's OK SOMETIMES - but sometimes I just want to tear my hair out. It's only my 2nd day and I'm soooooooooooo frickin tired from the job. I have to memorize all the types of food that they sell – and they ALL LOOK THE SAME TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve messed up so many times- I mean who really pays attention to a difference of 1.50 and 2.50 when the only diff (on the outside) is sprinkles???? (There is no barcode to scan, so basiclaly, I have to type in the price – have to memorize which is which, when pineapple bread looks the same to me as pineapple custard (no labels! ughh) – which costs more.) thank god i have the last shift so i don't have to do anything once i get home. Some of the frickin customers don't help out either. I try to be as pleasant as I can, but some customers are so annoying that i want to string their neck (change their minds so many times and I have to void the sale). then they complain and complain if i'm bagging the goods for them (they're like "i'm in a hurry"!) - WHATEVER http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif. Ah well, at least my apron is cute (haha), and at least SOME customers have the decency to reciprocate niceness. geez. unfortunately there's really nothing to like about this $hit of a job (pardon the profanity) - low pay, bitchy customers who don't understand that sometimes workers there don't know everything (one customer said to me, "JUST PRESS THE BUTTON!!!!" I wanted to throw something in her face. It's like, if you know so much, why don't YOU come and try to figure out what special code to type in, out of all those codes !!). This is a great way to practice my acting – hahaa. This is also a great way to practice my restraint http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif . sorry for ranting http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. At leastt from now on I'll know to be really patient when buying things from other stores (though usually I am patient to begin with, now I’ll know to be extra patient)- i know what those employees have to go through! Hang in there newbie. You will get used to your job, trust me. The first few days are always the hardest. I remember when I first started my job. I just hated it, and I wanted to cry, but it got better. I work in a grocery store. For those of you who haven't done this....DON'T. It's not worth it. hehe. Customers will be very rude, but don't let them get to you. It's not your fault that they're nasty people. Just try to be polite to them anyway, or things will be much worse. Eventually, you'll get to the point where you'll make fun of them with your co-workers after they leave the store. Not that I would know, or anything. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Newbie, remember, the four kinds of bread... new bread, toast, stale bread, bread with fur. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I hope that cheers ya up!
My job is fun, I absolutely love some of the people I work with. Sometimes they screw up my breaks like today... I went on my first break at 10:30, and my lunch was suppossed to be at 1... well I didnt get to go til 2... and thats 30 min for lunch. My second break was at 2:30... so I punched in at 2:30 and sat down for my break! I just wish I got more hours! We get paid every week, my last check was for 4.5 hours... ugh. <3 Ali |
Thanks Lindsay adn Ali http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.
I had a GREAT day yesterday (saturday) - but i think it's b/c most of the day I waitressed (I'm a cashier and a waitress). I got TONS of tips, and it was great to finally serve lots of really cool, nice custmoers (who apparently have a big wallet http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif)!!! The absolute BEST part of my job tho, is to see all the little kids that come in http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. It's so amazing how little kids can make your day sooo much brighter!!!! They see me and start smiling and waving so big, that I havee a wide smile stretched out for a few minutes, lol. They are SO cute!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif One little girl said to me today, "HI!!! I LOVE YOUR STORE!!" (literally she was yelling adn jumping up and down, lol) I was like, "Oh really? What's your favorite dessert?" She replied, "THIS ONE!!!" And she brought up like 6 sponge cakes to the counter, lol (of course they all fell down to the floor), all while smiling so big that I thought her cheeks would pop! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif But besides that, today I had a horrible day http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif, I think it's b/c I worked all day as a cashier. By the last few hours, I still try to be pleasant, but it really kills me when customers are being such b*tches! That when they do that, I just stop saying "hi!" for a few customers b/c my energy is zapped out! Ughh! I'm getting really good exercise for my legs, though b/c I have to stand all day! Newbie, where are you working? |
I had scoliosis when I was younger. My ballet teacher noticed it when we were doing bends one day. (i stayed in ballet as part of therapy).Anyway I don't have it anymore but I remember the backpain was.
Yeah man, I can't understand why we can't have stools as cashiers. Its not like we would suddenly slack off and give wrong change or something just coz we have our butts on a chair. And at blockbuster being cashier doesnt mean u just stay on register. There are stupid people that bring the boxes instead of the movie behind them and so we have to point that out and they dont fuckin remember where they got the movie from so we have to leave our registers and get the movie ourselves. and of course at the end of the night we just have as many boxes to put back on the shelves just as many as returned movies. And my feet always kill me! |
