Question
So, as some of you know, I would like to pursue AI upon graduation in May. I have done my research and have found a sorority (I am not going to name the sorority) that I would like to contact regarding AI but I know that there's nothing I can do until I have graduated. My question is, do you think it would be weird to contact them about volunteer opportunities for non-members? I am not sure how that works, or if it's even possible, but i would really like to get involved with their philanthropy/ies (having to do with children) because helping children is something I absolutely love and am devoting my life to by becoming a teacher.
Any thoughts/opinions are greatly appreciated! |
I'd venture to say that most (if not all) sororities do not have volunteer opportunities for non-sisters. I know mine does not.
If you are very interested in their philanthropy, you can do something on your own within that area (for example, if it's Make A-Wish, you cantact Make-A-Wish directly and see if they have any volunteer opportunities for you). |
Thanks for the advice! :)

I think it will just look plain transparent... If it's Ronald McDonald or CASA or PiPhi's Settlement school, why not just contact the philanthropy? Why??? Because you really want to make yourself look better by making yourself known to the sorority you want to join. Let's not fib here. It's not 100% about "helping the kids..."
C'mon, you are STILL in college and already know you're trying to AI? People kill me. AI is not like going shopping. |

Well, I was going to post a comment re: this but I have changed my mind. This site isn't even worth the words I am typing. Thanks to all who have been helpful. |

What needs to happen is some kind of rule get established that the word "pursue" can never be associatied with the term "AI". Together, they sound oxymoronic... |

FWIW, from reading her other posts, her college does not have Greek life, so it's not like she rushed and got rejected from a sorority that she "dreamed of being in", picked the "Wrong one" etc etc.
LilacLove, if you do decide to approach a sorority for AI, they will want to know what you want out of membership other than participating in their national philanthropy. For example, membership in ADPi is not required to volunteer with and donate to the Ronald McDonald House. |
LilacLove: If you want to help a philanthropy, contact the philanthropy/charity/institution, not the sorority. It is not the job of a sorority to coordinate the volunteer activities of nonmembers.
