recruitment and orientation at the same time?!
so i'm going to be a new transfer student and my school has orientation meetings and rush at the same time. and of course i really want to do both. the packet they sent me says it's possible to do both, but i don't know how that's going to affect the bids if i miss several of the parties. has anyone else had this dilemma? if so, how did you manage to do both?

do you know for a fact that they coincide at the same times. Or are they just on the same days. Because they might schedule them during two different time periods such as one in the morning and one in the evening depending upon how many chapters are at your school.
|
If possible, blow off orientation, or try to reschedule anything you have to do (like class scheduling). I think it would be easier to catch up on those things than to miss rush parties. Also, make sure that you are eligible to rush as a transfer student in the first place.

the info packet they sent me said that we are welcome to participate in rush. i looked at the schedule from my friend who's rushing and it's from 10 am to about 4 pm everyday. and orientation is from 11 am to 3 pm everyday.
yea i was thinking about blowing off orientation, i'm just afraid they have a list of all the transfers so they'll find who was there and who was not... like at a meeting they might ahve those stick on name tags or whatnot and if mine's the only one left- they'll know i wasn't there. |
Look at the rush schedule and the orientation schedule and see if there are some times that may not overlap.
Call the office in charge of orientation and see if you can do something like go to part of an orientation session. If you're not doing something REALLY important like registration, I'd suggest skipping orientation. |
Call the greek life office and see what they have to say. Some schools have "special" recruitment groups made up of women who have to attend orientation or have band or sports team practice and they go to parts of parties, escorted by counselors.

You can't be the first transfer who's ever rushed. There may even be other transfers planning on participating in recruitment. I'd call the greek life office and the office that runs orientation, and see what you can arrange. If push comes to shove, skip orientation... you can always find out later what was covered in orientation, but if you skip recruitment, you'll be waiting a while before you have another opportunity to rush.
|
Orientation may not be mandatory for all transfers. I agree with everyone else, contact the orientation office and see what the deal is with people who want to go through recruitment. Plus, you may not be the only transfer and it would be a great way to meet another transfer student if you rushed together!
