Antiques Roadshow coming to town!
I'm so excited -- I just learned that Antiques Roadshow is coming to my town in July! The newspaper said ticket recipients will be selected at random and info. regarding tickets will be available later this month. Each person chosen to attend is allowed to bring two items.
Anyone here ever been to a taping? |
Oh I went a few years ago when it was in New Orleans at the Convention Center. We had to wait in line for a while but it was worth it. We were allowed to bring two items per person. I brought my great-great-grandmother's Jumeau Doll and an antique ring. I didn't make it on TV but it was fun. There is an AOII/Ole Miss alumna who is one of the appraisers on there when they are in her area. Her name is Beth G. Szescila.

My mom's friend told us that for some items they know ahead of time that the person is bringing in a huge antique armoire or something like that. Most of the time the person has sent pictures to the show and then the show contacts them back. Now of course most of the items are impromptu! Oh and just remember that whatever you bring you have to carry in and out of the show. |
OMGlitter, were you surprised by the value of the items you took? How fun. I am going to be so disappointed if I don't get to go.
I just thought of something -- has there ever been any fraternity/sorority treasure appraised on the Roadshow? |

My doll appraised way more than I thought and the ring (just a little amethyst gold ring) appraised for about $500 bucks....my mom had some Newcomb Pottery (since lost in Katrina) that appraised for big bucks too!
I don't think I've ever seen any fraternal pins/badges on there.... |

Good luck getting in! I love the Roadshow. :) |
I was thinking more of china or silver items rather than jewelry, per se. There are some gorgeous pieces from late 1800s and early 1900s that included fraternity/sorority crests, etc. I know these are rare & precious, but wouldn't it be fun to see something make it on the Roadshow!
*idea* |
I love watching that show!
Having many Antiques passed along for many years and growing up with them, I did not appreciate them until I got older. When looking at items, look first on the bottom of the object if it is dish ware.!:) There may be many things that you have no clue about! Go if you get a chance, take something that may feel of worth and see what happens! Have fun if you get a chance! They were in K C and I did not know it! |

I used always watch that show! My mom and I always wanted to go on it! We almost went to one of the auction houses in NYC when they were having an "open house" a few summers ago to appraise things. Except we didn't know the logistics of getting a samurai looking sward that we found in our old house on the subway, standing around on the street waiting to get in, etc.
Good luck! |

yessss! my mom and I are going to try and get tix, if we do, we should all meet up! |

Well, I broke down and made a donation to the local PBS station so I could be positive I would receive 2 tickets. If I happen to get some from the random drawing, then a couple of friends can go too.

Good luck to you New Englanders, too! Have any of you ever heard of Rick Seebak, who does PBS on various cities, sandwiches, markets - that sort of thing? He lives about a mile or two from me. |
