Las Vegas???

I'm going on vacation to Las Vegas soon!! Any tips, must-sees, etc.?

Unless you like that historical kind of stuff, I'd stay away from Hoover Dam because #1 it's boring and #2 it's just too hot out there at this time of year.

I usually go to Vegas twice a year (since it's the 9th Hawaiian island) and the frequent highlight of my trip isn't the casinos, but the Belz Outlet Mall. The clothes in Esprit are so inexpensive that I could spend an entire day just shopping around for the goods!

I've also enjoyed going through the Coca Cola Factory and M&M World. Riding the rollercoaster at the New York New York's fun too.

I get kicks from watching the water show at the Bellagio. I think they do it every 45 minutes.

If you have the time and $$$, I'd suggest seeing one of the shows. The last time I went I saw one of the Cirque du Soleil shows, and, though it was pricey, it was a fabulous show!

Before you leave your home, try to check out who's playing and where in Vegas. Usually they have big name performers that might be in town when you're there. I've been to the Billboard and Blockbuster Awards as well as an NSYNC concert at the MGM Grand Arena.

Have fun!

Thanks OTW for the recommendations!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif LOL, I will stay away from the Hoover Dam...is it true that in the summer, it is around 100 degrees??? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

I will definitely check out the Belz outlet Mall. I love getting good deals, and I love Esprit, too!! What's the M and M World?

Newbie, I lived in Las Vegas for nearly five years. Didn't do casinos much, I'm not a gambler. I spent my money on food (world-class restaurants there like Spago and Postrio.)
On the subject of outlet malls, also try Fashion Outlet of Las Vegas, which is about 30 miles south. The New York New York hotel on the Strip has a shuttle bus, which cost around $10 roundtrip the last time I checked.
At Fashion Outlet, there's a Neiman Marcus clearance center with good selection and prices, especially if you're smaller.
M&M World is a salute to the candies, I guess. I've never been there.

Thanks Steeltrap http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif!! We have Postrio, too, here in San Francisco!! It's very expensive, but it's soo worth it!! Thanks for the recs on the outlets--I will have to check that out!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I'm not sure which hotel we will be staying in (my cousin and I)...I will post when I find out!

Newbie,

Yes its true its 100--actually in the summer its more like 110-118. But its not the same as if it was that way in California. They say its a dry heat and it is, but its still &%^$%#@ HOT. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

My friends and I are not gamblers, AND I grew up there, but when we go, we pretty much lay poolside all day and go dancing at night.

Hoover Dam is worth the trip if they are having the spill overs, as the water flying over the dam and spraying the onlookers keeps ya cool. And it is a cool tour--the first time you see it, but only the first time, and most of us who have lived there have seen it 35 times. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Cirque Du Soliel is TOTALLY worth the $-its amazing.

The people watching in Vegas is like nowhere else in the world.

Have fun!
Amy

Hey Amy!

Thanks for the tips http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. What is Cirque de Soleil all about??

Dry heat...actually, isn't Los Angeles full of dry heat??? When I went there each summer for a month (except for this one http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif), there were many times where it was full of dry heat! Sometimes when it gets hot in SF it's also dry heat too, at least to me??

I fly to Vegas a lot! If you are of age, Club Utopia (on the strip) and The Ra (Luxor) are th best clubs to go to.

If you are in the mood to be pampered; the spa at the Luxor is the best (for the price) that I have found.

As far as temp; they run about the same temperature as Phoenix... so far we have been in low 100's during the day, and high 90's at night.
Anyone who says "It's just a dry heat" is full of hooey! 117 is HOT with or without humidity. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Have fun.

Thanks dc1!!

I'm not of age, sadly http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif, but my cousin is...so I will pass it on to him http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. Dry heat is horrible, though, isn't? I don't know if I'm thinking of the same thing that you guys are thinking--but it's just a wave of heat, where it feels unbearable!!

dc--I'd argue for Ra to be one to avoid, but to each their own! I'm assuming you've done 54 (my fave). Have you checked out The Beach? (It's across the street from the Las Vegas Hilton.)

newbie-Are you flying or driving to Vegas? If you're driving, stop at the outlet mall at Stateline for a break.

Watershow @ Belagio is sooo pretty! I have to insist that you do the Slingshot on top of the Stratosphere. It's completely nerve racking to think about but it is the absolute biggest adrenaline (sp?) rush that I've EVER had! I wanted to ride it all night. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Yup, night! They sell multiride tickets so you can keep getting back on. Plus the view is gorgeous up there. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Cirque Du Soliel --translated is Circus of the Sun--- but its a gymnastic/contortionist/dance circus--no animals, all these amazing costumes and music--truly incredible to see!

And LA is not a dry heat, its way more humid here than in Vegas. And yes, the dry heat is when you walk outside and feel like you've been hit by a wall of heat.

Oooh, Cirque du Soliel sounds sooo nice http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. I'm gonna ask my cousin if he wants to see it or not. He doesn't really like gymnastics/dance, but I'll get my way somehow, and he will take me, hahaa http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!

Wow, I always thought that LA was full of dry heat. When I stayed at my uncle's house each summer (for a month), I would walk out at 8 AM (!!!!) and it would be 90 degrees out, and a huge wave of heat came on! LOL, I might not be able to stand Las Vegas! Oh well, hopefully the shows/the fun, etc. will beat out the heat http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

SoCal GIrl, I'm flying to Vegas! Unfortunately, we're not driving, so I won't be able to go to the Stateline mall http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. What's the Slingshot? Is that a rollercoaster??!!!! That'd be soo awesome! What is it like?

There's a roller coaster up there too. But the Slingshot is much better. There's 12 seats, 4 on each side, of this giant pole on top of the tower. (More than just a pole, but I don't know how to really describe it.) You're sitting there and they hit the switch which releases the seats up into the air. You shoot strait up into the air, like another 200 feet. You then fall back down. You keep going up and down until there's not enough momentum to push you up anymore. It's INSTANT adrenaline!

lol i hope it's not too late to post. I just came from las vegas tonight, i spent 4 days there (if anyone noticed my absence from the usual daily posting).

shopping: FORUM at Caesars Palace and CANAL SHOPS at the Venetian...uuugggh i admit i blew a whole paycheck in there, but a lot of the shops there (like a/x)we dont have in chicago anyway, and that's the reason i assured myself with to spoil myself.

Food: i liked the buffet in Venetian coz they had those huge ass crab legs...we ate in alot of other places and they were all good, but that's my favorite plus P.F. Chiang's, a Chinese-American restaurant. It's around Henderson NV, it's not on the strip.

I dunno, but this is the third time in a row that my mom won money in the Flamingo hotel, so there must be "something"--like a good vibe--in there http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif....lol.

We didn't stay in a hotel, we stayed in my cousin's house (which saved us tons of $$ of course)but yeah if i could pick a hotel to stay in it would be Caesar's or Bellagio (great artwork/ceiling murals).

You know what, I completely spaced 54! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I had such a blast there before!
Never been to The Beach... I will be sure to go next time I am there. Thanks!

Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?"
I answered ever so meekly; "I seek Honor, Truth, Integrity, and Wisdom, yet those are four. How am I to choose?"
The answer came as a pounding whisper; "The four you seek are but one. I grant thee Compassion; for without it the four make none."
