Spring O8 Recruitment

Hi! I'm new here, although I've been reading posts for a while I haven't quite found the answer that I'm looking for. I'm transferring in the middle of my sophomore year to a middle-sized private school in the south, although most students are from both the south and the northeast. At my previous university I was never interested in sororities until I saw the amazing bonds they had and how much fun they had together and I realized that I want to have too, since I feel that I fit in much more with the new school I will be attending I decided that I may also find a sorority that I will fit into.

So my question is, I haven't seen much about formal recruitment specifically at the kind of school I will be transferring to. I know that recruitment isn't like that at a big state school in the south, and Greek involvement at the school is about 30%. Are recommendations usually necessary at a school like this? I read on the school's greek life page that if recommendations are needed the chapter is responsible for getting them, is that how it usually works? Also, since I am rushing as a sophomore AND a transfer, how might that affect my chances? Should I tell the sisters that I'm a transfer and this will be my first semester there which is why I haven't been that involved yet (because recruitment will be the first week I'm at the school) but I plan to be involved in certain clubs and what I was involved in at my previous school?

I'm sorry I'm rambling, I guess I just need some advice since I wasn't involved at my previous university. I'm really looking forward to making bonds with lots of new girls! Thanks!

If the website mentions recommendations, they are probably a must.

The school will often say that the sororities are responsible for securing recommendations, when it's not totally the case. Sometimes, if there are alot of girls rushing, it's IMPOSSIBLE for them to secure one for every girl who is going through.

It's for that reason that I'd advise you to get them for yourself.

If you get your own recs, you guarantee that you'll have them in time for recruitment.

There is a big stickied thread about recommendations in one of the recruitment forums, as well as this thread about recs. I'd suggest giving it a read since there's some good info in it:

*As far as transferring goes, (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) they will most likely know that you're a transfer by your transcript and recruitment application. So you on't have to explain transfering or why you didn't rush at your old school.
