How about Tube Tops???
 

Okay, we did halter tops, what about tube tops. I wore one this weekend to a wedding reception. I wore a skirt with it, which was close to being knee length, and the tube top didn't show my stomach or anything, but my mother freaked and was like, I can't believe you are wearing that shirt. I was like, okay, it isn't much different than wearing a tank top with little straps, or a halter top. However, she disagreed. I am pretty small, 5'3, 109 lbs, so nothing was hanging out or anything. What do you guys think??

I don't have a problem with tube tops as long as people don't look trashy wearing them. I personally wouldn't wear one, cuz I'd be so paranoid about it falling off of me!

I have always been a little leary of tube tops, I guess because I am a little conservative and have never had the guts to wear one. But I am getting a little more daring: I have fallen in love with one-shoulder tops, I have three of them and pair them with capris or a skirt whenever I go out.

Thanks!!!! And yes, had this reception been in a church I would have thought twice about wearing it, but, since it wasn't, I didn't think it would be a big deal. However, though, my mom thought differently. lol As, they always do huh?? LOL Oh, and not to mention that I am 20 yrs old, and should be able to distinguish between what is appropriate and what isn't for certain occassions. Don't you agree???

Yeah, I, too, am more on the conservative side when it comes to clothing, so I don't really like tube tops. I think they look nice on certain people, though - you just have to be careful. THey look wonderful with shrugs/cardigans though.

If you are tiny and nothing is going to fall out, and you are tastefully covered on the bottom, they can work, but on a VERY small percentage of the population.

In England, they call them BOOB TUBES!!

I am quite thin, yet busty--tube tops do not work! I look like, hmmm, how shall I put this, Hoochie Mama in them? Without even trying. So if this is the term that comes to mind when you see yourself in a tube top, halter top or strappy tank, OR if there is a roll of any kind hanging out--don't wear it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Now strappy tank tops on the otherhand-- I don't mind seeing bra straps with. Straps ONLY--not also the whole back of the bra riding above the cut of the tank. And if you're gonna show your straps--make sure they're not white and dingy or have threads hanging off. Sorry to interrupt this discussion but what exactly IS a "Hoochie Mama"? How would you know this species of girl if you saw her, and how would she act? I've heard the term before but was never sure what it was really about.

A hoochie mama, in my opinion, is a slut - dressed like a prostitute (harsh, i know). You just KNOW when she walks in the room ... maybe it's a girl thing, I don't know.

Rachel, I could understand your mom not wanting you to wear a tube top to the church part but I think it would be perfectly fine for the reception.
