Time's Person of the Year is....

NEW YORK - Time magazine on Wednesday named Russian President Vladimir Putin its 2007 "Person of the Year."

The nod went to the Russian leader because of Putin's "extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability," said Richard Stengel, Time's managing editor.

It seems like odd timing to me. I mean, yeah, he just won re-election, but why this year? Russia hasn't exactly been chaotic lately, and Putin has been its leader for many years.

Surprising considering the way that they treat their prisoners. Then again, Adolf Hitler won the award before.

Can't tell if you're serious or not, but since enough people get in an tizzy each year when someone who isn't a "good guy" it's quite possible you do, in fact, mean it.

This does mean that no, Time is not so crazy as to think that any of it's Persons of the Year are sainthood candidates (barring actual sainthood candidates of course.)

I'm serious, I really didn't know that until you brought it to my attention. Relax, some people can actually admit when they're wrong.

No, I'm not upset about it. It's just that every time someone who isn't the president, ghandi-esque, or otherwise "awesome" there's a big fuss and the concept is explained again. So I thought I'd bring it up now. I just couldn't tell if you were serious or deadpanning sarcasm.

Well I know my response was surprise due to not being aware of what Putin did this year that was so significant as to earn him this recognition, bad or good. Surely there was someone in the world that did something this year that was of major impact, good or bad?

I think he's freaking me out, but no I haven't heard a lot about him this year in particular. I suspect I'll find out when I get that particular Time.
