HOW TO START GREEK LIFE???
I attend a smaller school in St. Louis, MO called Webster University. It does not have Greek Life. I have always wanted to be in a sorority but Webster lacks giving me this opportunity. We had an organization meeting today and someone brought up Greek Life. They told me I should try and get it started. I have no idea where to start though. How would I even begin?

depends on what kind of sorority you want to start ... if NPC then start here
http://www.npcwomen.org/extension-info.aspx as said above the search button is your friend good luck! |
Besides seeing if there is enough student interest, you should talk to an administrator in your Student Life or Student Activities department. There's no use in contacting the NPC if your college administration isn't open to the idea of adding a whole new dimension to the student life on your campus.

I would imagine that you need the university's approval to start any new student group (sorority or otherwise).

Does the school allow Greek life (some don't). Looking at the website, it looks as if the resident undergraduate population is small and the school has invested a lot into online/distance learning. It may be hard to get the NPC to want to colonize there unless the think membership numbers can be maintained. I don't know what their criteria are though. I went to a sort-of-similar school that was predominantly male and had lots of students on campus but they still had a few (3) NPC sororities.
First, I would check with the Office of Student Life and find out exactly where they stand with Greek student organizations. Then I would research....thoroughly NPC policies and procedures and independent, non-NPC groups. Good luck. |
grab some letters not in use. start calling yourself the "XYZ" sorority. recruit 1 other person. and you are done.

A lot will depend on the size of the school, if they are interested in starting a grrek life there, if there is enough interest by the students.
If the answer is yes then this is a start. But as someone mentioned is the answer to the above items enough that a Greek Organization will want to come there. Good luck. |

Church if I can ask you to turn to the Book of Greek Genesis chapter 1 verses 1 thru 4 and read along silently as I read aloud: 1:1 In the beginning God created the colleges and the universities. 1:2 And they were without form, no great parties, no community service, no leadership and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the students. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the campus. 1:3 And God said, Let there be Greek Life: and there was Greek Life. 1:4 And God saw the Greek Life, that it was good: and God divided the Greek Life from everything else. Thank you Lord for the reading and the hearing of this scripture.... Let the church say Amen.... |
