Summertime Blahs
School has been out for a month for me, and I'm not doing summer school. I still have yet to get a job, despite numerous applications. I think I'm going stir-crazy being home all day...
Anyone else get the summertime blahs, where the days just drag on forever and it seems like you'll never get back to school again? |
Yeah I did get the summertime blahs for awhile because summer wasn't turning out the way I wanted it to. first of all, i was totally looking forward to get home from school since I was excited about spending time with my boyfriend FINALLY after only getting to see him every other weekend and such coz we go to different schools...then after a couple dates after I get home, he breaks up with me like a week after...now, a fresh dumpee who has yet to work w/ nothing to do at home...now that was TORTURE. Ugh. I cried everyday (even shared my sorrows in Greekchat) but of course, time heals the wounds although it wasn't a quick process.I have a job now (that was my job last year, they rehired me but didn't let me start until 2 wks after i got back from school) but I don't work every single day so on days I am off and my friends are still at work--nothing to do except watch dvds or go online until someone i know calls me once he/she gets home...i also get crazy!!!But yeah, I actually work with my ex(i honestly thought about quitting my job coz of him but my pledge mom said it was a sign of weakness)still and all's good..we're buds and he still drives me back and forth....but on my days off (i cant believe how much time i HAVE for myself now that im single)and everyone is out/work/summer school, I amuse myself with talk shows, sex on the city dvds, update my webpage and of course, greekchat. there's my life...

Gammazetagrl: Major props to you girl!! I'm so glad that you are coping well with the breakup http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I know how hard it is--especially when that person was so special to you! And about how you said how much time you have for YOURSELF now--relish in that! I've realized that a lot of times, I don't have time for ME b/c I've been in relationships, basically one after another..without being single for a long time. It's so great to have time for yourself only!
Also, when I went through a really hard breakup last year (kept on going back to the idiot of a cheater), it really helped to have great friends by your side, spend time with the family, and INDULDGE, indulge, indulge!!! Go eat some chocolates if you want to, go get that new top that you've eyeing, etc.! Also, writing in my journal really helped me http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. And it's so true that time heals everything. Also, I know this sounds soo cliched, but it's true that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I've become a lot stronger through the things that I've gone through recently, and that hard breakup that I had last year finally taught me how important it is to treat myself right!! So treat yourself like a princess http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Sorry to go on and on about this...I'm sure you've probably heard this all already! |

This is off topic but...:
http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif very well said newbie!I like that--what doesnt kill u only makes u stronger! don't worry, even if i've heard it all before I dont mind hearing it again coz yes, any piece of advice makes me feel stronnggerrrrrr. I also realized that at a time like this that's when u realize who your friends are, those who are willing to stand by your side and be there for u when u need them. Coz unfortunately there were some that seemed to good to hear about me crying on the phone about my problems--they'll get theirs someday! anyway It's kinda ironic coz when he took me to one of their functions (one of the last things we went to as a couple) I met this girl and we hit it off as friends--although we were kinda intoxicated and when i was like "i made a friend!" he attributed it to the fact that we were drunk, that's why we kept talking and even exchanged numbers. But then days after, we kept in touch and now we talk online, email and by phone. He was surprised when i told him we were actually like, FRIENDS now and in fact she was the one who gave me the most advice and was there for me when he dumped me. So it was an ironic blessing in a way, that stuff happen for a reason...he took me to their dance so I can meet this girl who will soon help me through a breakup with him...how weird, but hey, i gained friends when i lost a boyfriend... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Anyway I found that shopping is not only good for breakup blues but summertime blues too! So if u dont have a car (like my sorry a**)get your sisters or friends who have one and hit the mall! |

It sucks to be 3/4 of the way through your college degree with a 3.79 and not even get an interview at Gap http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif |

This is what I'm going through right now. And a lot of places don't want to hire you if you're leaving at the end of the summer. This happened to me last year, and as a result, had to take a real s---ty job, which I AM NOT going to do again. The sad thing is that I started looking for work here in March! I realized (too late) that I could have a better job in Providence. Oh well. |
POOR JUNIORGRRL!!!!
You can have my job any day. I get to work on campus making barely above minimum wage. Plus I don't work with the smartest people either. OH...and doesn't it suck to be in Baton Rouge this week???? This weather just adds to my misery. I walked through water today that was knee deep. UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!Plus I'm in summer school. YUCK!!!! Well I'm off to start my homework. Hope your week gets better!!!!! Allison |
Hey Allison,
I'm in Slidell, and the weather is just as bad! I've barely left the house its been so nasty! But on a positive note, I got a call back from one of my applications and I got a job!!! Its the same job I've had for 2 summers before (working at a Babbages). Not especially glam when my b/f is making $10/hr with an internship at NRL at the Stennis Space Center complex in MS. But hey, its money. And I get outa the house! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hey!!!! Congrats on getting the job!!! No more summertime blahs for juniorgrrl!!!! The weather really sucks around here. That's my biggest blah right now. But The Reveille had the coolest headline today..."Allison Takes Baton Rouge By Storm"!!!! I collected up all of the copies at work so I can keep them!!! I love having a tropical storm with my name!!! OH...and I'm really disappointed in the LSU administration. You think they would be a little sympathetic about people being out in all this rain but NOOOOOO we still have classes planned for tomorrow. I just really don't want to go wade through knee deep water again. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif OK...I'm done complaining. Hope everyone is having an awesome summer!!!!!

CONGRATS Juniorgrrl!!!! Hope there are no more summertime blahs for you!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
Gammazetagrl, I totally know what you mean about realizing who your TRUE friends are. I went through a really rough stretch recently, and I finally realized who my real friends are--those that will stick by you when you're so down, those that never tire of hearing you cry...those that will always give their shoulders for you to cry on http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. It's kinda sad, though, that it takes something bad to happen to realize who willl always be there for you 24/7! And I've always believed in karma...no doubt about it, those friends that weren't there for you and for me through tough times will no doubt about it get THEIR share of what it feels like! Hehehee, I'm so glad that you met that girl at the dance http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. Isn't funny how life works sometimes? When you least expect it, life hits you with blessings!!!! And again, I'm so PROUD and GLAD that you're healing so nicely http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. It's always wonderful to see people bounce back with such strength!! Also--sorry i'm sounding so preachy http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif, but...regardless if the relationship ended, it's always nice to think about how that special someone had enlivened your life and made an impact on your life!! Last year, (the previous relationship before I got with my current bf) I had a real roller-coaster emotional experience with this guy who was a no-good cheater. I came back to him 3 or 4 times (even though all my friends kept on trying to stop me...though I ddint' realize then how right they were!) even thoguh I knew deep down he would always be a cheater. It really hurt, when I finally realized reality, BUT it was nice to think how he had "changed" who I was, for the better...(even though he made me bitter for a while http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). Sorry to go on and on about this gammazetagrl!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hey my LSU girls http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
juniorgrrl: That's great that you got a job. Hope you make lots and lots of money this summer http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Allison: I'm about to go out of my freaking mind with all this rain. Even though classes were cancel, everything else was open. I work in the library so I still had to go to work. I was pretty miffed about that. Sure they shut everything down at 3,but guess who had to treck all the way back across campus in the rain? The day sucked. I'm very crabby right now so forgive me if I sound a little irratated here on the boards |
You're so wise newbie! Yeah I totally agree how experience is the best teacher no matter if the experience was good or bad...and so far I feel better day after day. I couldn't really blame u though about going back to your ex 3-4 times even though u knew he was a cheater (btw, thanks for sharing such a personal experience)...i tried to put myself in your shoes and i realize that humans can be "fools in love"..I know I was. I remembered thinking, if he asked me to take him back i totally would run back...but of course, that was just days after we broke up and if he did that now, I would have to think about it. We just need time to keep our thinking straight again, I guess. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifBut I am real happy for u that u found a guy who rightfully deserves your love and caring, and is willing to return it! anyway to those who were looking for jobs and got one, congratulations...I know I HAVE to keep working to save up for next semester's dues and misc expenses in addition to the usual bills/school! lol. I'm saying this from the point of view of a normal middle class,i-get-an-allowance-but-its-not-that-much-type of girl: Being Greek CAN be real expensive! but hey it's totally worth it ;D It's an investment, just like splurging on 50$ sorority girl pants u know u'd be wearing in every other party. As Greeks we are investing in our sisters/brothers/FRIENDS for life. |
I cannot say I get the summertime blahs per say, but I don't like summer...I hate heat and sun...Sounds weird I know! But I am known for loving rainy, cold, cloudy days...They are just so beautiful...I sleep in or just feel so calm...I get pissed off very easily in the heat and get heat headaches ALL THE TIME! I am a Fall and Winter Woman! Nothing better than a cozy fire and hot chocolate and snuggling!
