Macallan sells for $54,000

No, not this macallan - this macallan.

Take a look at some of that other stuff in the photo gallery. $1,000 Bagel...SRSLY???

Maybe it's just me, but I really have no desire to eat gold leaf. Maybe it's really tasty, but I just don't have a craving for it! (or is it an aquired taste?)

As for the Macallen-- do you think the person that bought it will actually drink it or just keep it for show?

If someone handed me goldleaf and said "Here, try this." I'd probably do it, but I'm certainly not going to pay $25,000 for the privilege.

I think that guy will probably keep it and display it. Although it says it has been rebottled - so I supposed he could sample it and then have it rebottled.

I think I've had the alcohol that has the gold flakes floating in it- so I guess I have eaten gold. But I don't think I'd pay $25,000 for it for dinner either!

So if the alcohol can be rebottled, then how can you be sure that it is really what it claims to be? I mean, I could take a glass of the real stuff, add in more scotch from another year, rebottle it and resell it. How would anyone know?

Not a clue - it probably has to be certified or something after the rebottle.

ETA: According to this (S 96-b) you have to have a permit to recondition liquor. I'm not sure how that stops someone from doing it without a permit, and how they would prove it anyway.
