Bad, bad allergies
 

Anyone have bad allergies?

I hate this...I cannot breathe sometimes...my nasal passages are supposedly "swollen" and stuffed up...anyway, no medicine is working, GRRR. I'm gonna try (or ask my DR) for Claritin next. Has anyone tried Claritin? Could you finally breathe normally thru your nose?

One of my sisters is basically allergic to life - she has problems with dust, flowers and fuzzy bunnies (including her former one who is now my housemate). She takes Claritin and says it's the only thing that does anything for her.

I only have trouble with breathing and nasal passages...luckily I have no problem with sneezing, but I also have those dreaded watery/dry eyes sometimes!!

the doctor gave me a prescription for Zrytec 10 mg--and its a miracle drug... I love it. It works inside of 10 minutes, I swear...

My allergies (I am allergic to pollen and dust) were the worst yet this past week. I switched from Claritin to Zyrtec and added Nasonex for my stuffy nose ( a nasal spray) and I think its finally beginning to work.

Try MSM powder in at least 6 grams a day in two divided doses. Seems to suppress most allergies . . try ten grams a day if you are really bad.

GYRL, I was taking 20 Benadryl a month just to keep afloat. Itried Claritin, nothing, then Nasonex. I have my life back. Takes about 3 weeks to kick in, but now I can even stay at my sisters house and they have a cat. I only take 1 benadryl a month now...if that. Praise be to Nasonex.

PS: Your DR. will have free smaples to get you strated to see if it works 4 you.

I get really bad allergies when the seasons change, and then sometimes inbetween.
I have tried EVERYTHING also. At the first clue of an allergy attack I load up on vitamin c. I tend to get really bad drainage with my allergies which leads to soar throats and sometimes ear infections. If I'm stuffed up, however, I'll use a dab of menthalatim rub under my nose before I go to bed. I will also try a hot, steamy shower to loosen up anything too.
Otherwise as far as things to try...I've tried Alkacelsar cold and fle, Tavis D, Nyquil/Dayquil. My only problem is that I get drowzy even if the box says I won't.

I have pretty bad allergies. My eyes are super sensitive and I usually use refresh plus tears(non preservative) 3 times a day. I didnt have that problem until after I graduated from college. My nose flares up sometimes too but I dont have problems with the stuffiness. I've tried lots of stuff for it through my doctor but I find that I just have to deal with it.

newbie--- my mom was taking claritin and i thought it was working fine. Then she came home one day and she was cussing at the claritin!! lol, she was like "this d*mn Claritin isn't worth sh*t". it was pretty funny.

My allergist said that you should switch out what you are taking every three months or so, or you will develop a resistance. So I go back and forth between Allegra and Claritin during allergy season.

Yes...all the medicines are over the counter. I recommend rotating everytime you get an attack. I read somewhere that you build an immunity to something you take often so that's why I try a variety of things. I'm lucky because this year I haven't had a serious attack like usual. Otherwise I would have attempted to get a perscription for Allegra or Clairatin or something.
