I didn't see this posted on GC yet, but saw it on CNN.

I think he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon though....at least the video said that....

I am not going to lose any sleep over the kid. He was a douchbag. I guess everyone missed the part about him threatening people with an ax.

So threatening someone is now punishable by the death penalty???? And not just any death - a particularly cruel one. I'm not saying he didn't deserve to be punished for his actions, but dragged to death? Far better to call the cops on him, I think.

Not to mention, if they managed to tie him up, they had already disarmed him or he would have cut the rope with his axe.
Plus, it was a hunting trip. If the guy was really threatening the others, they had rifles and could have shot him. |
When someone brings an ax to a party it is time to take the gloves off. I think the kid got what he deserved. They probably should have shot him but they might not have had access to their guns.

If he was tied up, he could have been driven to wherever they needed to get a hold of the police, assuming they didn't have cell phones on them. I doubt that. Once someone is no longer a threat, you can't keep hurting them.

But, (help me out Kevin or one of the other lawyers on GC) it has to be reasonable force. If someone threatens to throw a rock at me, I cannot run him down with my car and claim self-defense. If they were able to tie his legs/ankles to a rope, why didn't they hog-tie him until he calmed down? If he wouldn't calm down, drive him to the nearest police/sheriff department. This is so clearly beyond the grounds of 'reasonable force', it is mind numbing. |
