Restaurant question
I've been a hostess at two restaurants within the last year. I noticed at both places that whenever I do a waiting list, 90% of the time when a couple or a family comes in they give their husband's first name if he dosen't give it himself. Also, whenever I seat couples or families, the male(s) usually sit on the outer end of the booth. Why is that?

what an interesting post! I never noticed how much I give my guys name out at restaurants. Every now and then I give MY name to throw him off. He always looks surprised when it's my name that's called and not his. I guess giving the guys name just comes from the old way of doing things where the guy is in charge. I think the sitting on the end thing comes from the idea of protecting the family. Kinda sweet. Sort of like the guy walking on the street side of the sidewalk.

This is interesting. Because usually both he and I give my first name. I don't know that we always sit a certain way when we're out with friends, I'll have to pay attention.
Sort of off-topic, but when I got out with my old high school buddies, everyone gives fake names that are impossible to pronounce. It's like a contest to see who can come up with the craziest name. ------------------ SilverTurtle Phi Beta Fraternity: National Professional Association for the Creative & Performing Arts |
My guy and/or I usually give his name simply because it's easier to pronounce.

I like 33Girl's answer. When I was dating my ex we used his last name because it's easier to say...MOORE. Mine, on the other hand, is often butchered. As far as the sitting in the booth thing I'm not sure that I've ever noticed where I sit. I know that when I go out with my best friend and her boyfriend she usually sits on the outside and him on the inside. However that could be because I'm sitting solo across from them and usually do not scootch all the way over.
Hope that all makes sense. |
