Pearl Harbor: The Movie
Memorial Day weekend is almost here, so that means that the summer blockbusters are right around the corner!
The world premiere of Pearl Harbor is this Monday and it will be held on the USS John Stennis, an aircraft carrier (with 6000+ personnel on board!) that arrived a few days ago. National media is slowly making its way to the quiet shores of Hawaii. The cast of the movie arrived in Hawaii a while ago and they've been spotted around town. Sadly I haven't seen my boyfriend Ben Affleck yet. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Because the premiere will be held on an aircraft carrier, women won't be allowed to wear high heels to protect their safety. All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear rubber-soled shoes. Imagine rubber shoes down the red carpet! There's so much hype regarding this movie--from the multi-million dollar production costs to the near-fatal plane crash that took place during filming. Geez-we even have a brand-new 16-PLEX opening the same day as the movie! Most of us are well aware of the events that took place on December 7, 1941 and are knowledgeable of the outcome of the attack. Still, I bet that Disney's going to use tragic/heroic love story plot. Heck, I get goosebumps from just watching the trailers. Do you folx think that this movie will do just as crazy as Titanic did? ------------------ "From a little spark may burst a mighty flame."--Dante Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! |
It really won't have much competition. There are not many good movies out right now . . .it should rack up at the box office.

From what I have seen of the trailers, Pear Harbor looks like a really good movie. I can't wait to go see it! OTW, have you run into Ben yet???

I am so looking forward to seeing this movie. I saw the preview/trailer (?) before the showing of Bridget Jone's Diary. Okay...I became very emotional just from that!!! All those military movies hit close to home since my father is a career Marine.
Anyway, I think this movie is going to be a biggie. It just has that appeal...from the history to the actors...it has to be good! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by shopgirl (edited May 18, 2001).] |
Have any of you ever been to the Arizona Memorial? Before the ferry takes you out to the actual memorial, there's a 23 minute informational movie that they show you.
If I got emotional the five times I've been to the Arizona, then I can only imagine how it's going to be when I see the movie. ------------------ "From a little spark may burst a mighty flame."--Dante Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! |
I'm sure it'll be similar to Titanic in many respects
no matter whether it's good or bad - there will be alot of hype on how great it is, thus most kids will hate it Nevertheless, I hope it does great The producer has been living in my hometown for several years now, Jerry Braucheimer (however you spell it) so if it is great, maybe my little small town will be somewhat celebrated I was supposed to have brunch with him once, because he's friends of my friends family my friends family had to cancel I'm still dissappointed about that can't wait to see it |

I went to the Arizona Memorial several years ago. Seeing that oil slowly dripping to the top of the water after so many years really got to me. Very emotional. Much like how I felt when I visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif |
About the movie Pearl Harbor, the company that made the movie printed out some promotional propaganda like posters about the movie. Kind like the ones you see in the history books and such. Anyways, someone who works at the place where these were printed up stole all of the posters and are selling them on e-bay. People collect the wierdest things. With stuff like this, it proves the movie will be huge, titanic huge.

Okay so I didn't see my boyfriend Ben, but the news people had lotsa coverage on the premiere...and from what I heard from the lucky people that got to go the movie was amazing. Faith Hill was here to sing the movie's song, Dan Aykroyd, Cuba Gooding Jr, Alec Baldwin, and Josh Hartnett were also on the red carpet. And premiere was unique because they did away with the tuxedos and gowns. The attire for the evening was "Aloha Crisp"...how cool is that?
My house overlooks Pearl Harbor, and just five minutes ago the huge fireworks display ended. The booms were so loud that they startled the neighborhood dogs! ------------------ "From a little spark may burst a mighty flame."--Dante Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! |
OohTeeny...I think you are confused. Ben is MY boyfriend. Good thing you're a sister! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!
I can't begin to describe how wonderful it is. It has everything that anyone could ever want in a film. The depiction of the bombing is mind boggling. I think it's a movie every American should see. (It also helped me to remember why we play Big Brother to the world). It's worth the 5,6 or even 10 dollars you'd have to pay to see it. Happy Memorial Day! D.C. |
I highly agree shopgirl http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Coming from a fellow Marine Brat http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Hopefully I can see it tommorow but I might sell out.

The two theatres that had their grand opening today showed the first showing at 7:55 AM (yes folx I said AM) to coincide with the actual bombing itself. Theatre-goers were actually lined up before 5AM!
I read our local morning newspaper and there was an article about how critics bashed the movie because it was "inaccurate" and "does not really tell the stories of the survivors." I personally haven't seen it yet (I'm going tonight), but I've heard nothing but positive reviews from my friends and colleagues. Despite Ebert's scathing remarks, I still can't wait to see it tonight. The only positive review came from the LA Times. Sometimes I wonder how these darn critics ever got hired in the first place. ------------------ "I don't know the secret to success, but one sure way to failure is to try and please everyone."--Bill Cosby Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! |
The movie is definitely a must see!
I sat on the ewdge of my seat for some parts talking to the screen . . watch out behind you . . . look out! Even the love story woven through the movie was fraught with a tension that will appeal to men and women . . . although for different reasons and deserves a post all its own. Also, it illuminates a part of world war II, that most people never have heard about it which happened post PEarl Harbor. Definitely different than "Tora Tora Tora!" Oh I don't remember who the lead female is but she, in the persona of her character, was completely beautiful and charismatic in a way that had me in love with her half way through the movie . . .*sniff* And the way the love story resolved showed that the writer had a sense of male justice . . The guys will get it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif So go see the movie so we can discuss it! If you don't see the movie by the end of the weekend (you really need an audience to truly appreciate a film) I swear that I will ruin the whole thing for all of you through posts on here and individual emails! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif |
