MSU places SAE fraternity on probation for two years

As the result of repeated violations of university regulations, Mississippi State's oldest social fraternity finds itself on probation until January of 2004.
In a decision announced Thursday by the Division of Student Affairs, the 114-year-old MSU chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been found guilty of serving alcohol to minors--specifically, freshman pledges younger than 21--and the "central distribution of alcohol," a university term describing the dispensing of beer or other spirits at an organizational function open to all members.

At so many levels:dumb and stupid.

And, I do know that this is several years old.
Just posted it to show that even in the deep South, large, major GLO's
can get themselves in a world of hurt by acting without thinking.

Having recently committed a serious violation of university rules while on two-year probation, Mississippi State's oldest social fraternity is losing its registration and will have to vacate its campus residence.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon, which opened a chapter at MSU in 1887, will give up all campus privileges Oct. 20. Acknowledging guilt, the fraternity this week signed an agreement with the Division of Student Affairs to voluntarily transfer its national charter to an alumni commission.
