is there a way to get rid of scars?
i've got some scars on my legs from various injuries (i got this bad one by my knee when i fell during skating and the way i landed made my blade cut through my tights and through my skin--eep)--or nicks from shaving, etc. I was just wondering if u guys have a method of lessening the appearance of scars (except for like surgery or something, can't afford that lol), that u wouldn't mind sharing? thanks.

I've heard that rubbing cocoa butter on scars helps them look less noticible. I have a scar on my elbow from where I had surgery, and I used to rub cocoa butter on it. I don't know if it did any good. Its been 14 years since it happened, and its faded pretty well.
I think that time is what heals it best. But keep the area moisturized - that does help http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
There is a type of patch,i can't think of the name,(maybe rejuve....?) sold in drug stores like Eckerds that a friend of mine used on a really deep insicion type scar and you would never know that she'd even had it! It's only about $40.00,and you wear it continuously. It's barely noticeable too

Vitamin E, i think, reduces the amount of scar tissue formed when cuts heal - i'll ask my mom for sure (yeah, keep laughing ...), but i think that's the one. Works pretty well i think too, if i remember correctly - it comes in a cream form.

I once burned really badly on my back to the point of scabbing. When the scabs came off, there was this nasty looking skin patches. So I rubbed cocoa butter on it everyday for MONTHS (actually my MOM did it for me), it eventually went away. You can't tell where it was, but at the same time, I was young and did it religiously from the time it was new. I'm not sure how it will affect old scars.

Thanks guys! I am actually printing out this thread for reference...lol Ill be taking your advices seriously. =)
Now I gotta run to walmart and buy me some cocoa butter. And preppie, i've heard about that patch (rejuveness)but i don't know anyone who knew anyone that used it. well im gonna take your word for it!! |
Vitamin E works wonders.
Also, when the cut/injury first happens, heal it by using TeaTree Oil. It aids in the healing and leaves no scars. ------------------ Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?" The best thing for scars or stretch marks is Retin-A. Problem is you have to get to the scar early and you need a prescription in the US. But hey - if you vacation in Mexico anytime soon you can grab some.

I am a total clutz- I bang into everything, trip over anything and I'm the one who sits on a chair and it breaks- (I'm not overweight-just it happens to me!)
I use Neosporin (sp?) - this stuff is the best but now I hear that there is a band aid out there that is "just for scars" - has some special cream in it to help reduce your scar. I am going to try to find it- hope this helps you! And for you new moms- stretch marks? Cocoa (sp?) butter is the best for that! |
Hey gammazetagrl!
I would think Neosporin...but it's not doing a very good job of healing my foot! Also, cocoa butter (palmer's) is great!!! Oh, I used to get nicks too while shaving...just be slow in your movement (don't shave while you're in a hurry!) and don't re-shave an area at once (that leads to nicks in my experience). Also--I use Gillette Shave Gel or SKintimates--and it has never given me any nicks!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by newbie (edited June 13, 2001).] |

They've even put a crunch on how much Tequilla/Kaluha/etc. you can bring back... I think it is 2 bottles per person now. ------------------ Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?" try some vitamin e....just break open the capsule and rub it on the scar. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifthat should work but only if the scars are relatively new....
