Open Bids at AU
Does one have to be enrolled in continuous open bidding to receive a bid outside formal recruitment? If a sorority has a particular interest in someone, can they offer her a bid outside COB? If it is allowable, does it ever happen at Auburn?
|
If formal rush is completely over, and the sorority is under total, I would think they can offer bids to whomever they want whenever they want.
I mean - continuous open bidding is just that, continuous....I never thought of it as something you have to "sign up" for...but of course Auburn is a different animal. I think you may be thinking of snap bids? |
Thanks. What is a snap bid? Yes, rush outcomes at Auburn are a mystery to me and many others!

snap bids are issued during bid matching at formal recruitment when a chapter finds that it has not made quota. a remaining eligible pnm who did not match may be offered a bid before the bid day festivities begin, thus being "snapped up." if done correctly, noone in the chapter would know which pnms(if any) were gained from snap bidding.

Sight hijack. I'm guessing this is just school policy, but our COB is a limited period, usually up until one week after recruitment ends. All the forms have to be for it by a certain date, after which we can no longer take any girls. We also have a policy that all NPC orgs must initiate their girls by a specified date, which was just instated recently. If a national program length goes past that date, that org must have special permission from Greek Affairs. I'm guessing that's why we can only COB girls up to a certain point - so that the school knows no organization is pledging girls after XX/XX/XXXX. |
Is this about your daughter who went through recruitment a few months ago? (If memory serves me correctly, she withdrew from rush.) If so, I think that the time to get a bid from any of the chapters this semester has passed...and that, based on what I have read about the school, that Spring recruitment is quite the exception on that campus.
I can't help but think that you are grasping at straws here. Is it you, or is it your daughter who is still stressing about it at this point? The past few posts smack of desperation. If I am incorrect, I apologize, but that's the way I see it. Quote:

Several women receive informal bids at Auburn every yeaer.

According to this post Susie was completely OK with the outcome because she wouldn't feel satisfied with a "second choice" sorority and it was the mom who couldn't stop wondering what went wrong. Auburn is a huge school and like many other huge schools that have several hundred if not a few THOUSAND pnms, many are the "complete package" with good grades, beautiful recruitment photos, and a resume full of extra-curricular activities. There are just so many girls like that it's hard to narrow the field from the chapter's POV. |
Unless mom changed her screen name and re-registered on the forum, i don't think this is the same person. There were too few posts under her name and that mom posted way too many times.

COB at Auburn begins with the end of Bid Day in the Fall (August) and will be running all the way up to the begin of Spring Classes. Most sororities who offer COB's in the Spring (January) will do so lowkey...no organized Spring Rush per se. There are 8 sororities participating in Spring Rush at Auburn (do not know which 8) and the sororities as a whole were just informed they could meet quota of 200. Some are already over that.....Also rumored is that it has been approved to bring Kappa Alpha Theta back but I do not know how this is going to be handled - spring or fall 08.....All this being said, yes, your daughter needs to be in the COB book located in the Greek Life Office, but I do know in a few recent chapter meetings, new members were asked to write down their friend's names....which means that that particular sorority was not bothering with the book......She just needs to meet as many girls as possible, and let them know she is interested in a bid, without being a stalker....LOL

Oh, and at Auburn. "snap bids" were given between the Bid Day offerings (Monday) and the beginning of COB (also Monday late)- which coincided with each other.....Snap bids were given through Friday to girls on the sororities Second Bid List....after Friday, it went to COB....

It is official from our HQ that Kappa Alpha Theta will be recolonizing at Auburn in Spring of 2009. |
Thanks for that info! I just knew that we heard it in our chapter meeting, but no details were given!!

Charmedlion, thank you, you exactly answered my question.
Ree 1993 and Texas Princess, yes, I did post some in August. And I do accept your apologies, because you are absolutely wrong about my reason for asking. |
you are very welcome :) Hope all goes well! Keep us posted!
