Panhellenic Judicial Boards
How many folks have a Panhellenic Judicial Board on their campuses, and how exactly do they work?
thanks much! |
We do not.

We have one. It hasn't formally met in 4 years. Chapters have the option of going through mediation before going to the board. For some reason, they're afraid of it. It is made up by the Prez and VP Judicial on Panhel and a rep from each chapter with a backup

The information for forming one is in the NPC Green Book....pages J1-J16.

My campus has a Panhellenic J-Board. I actually served on it for a while in my junior year.At the start of spring semester, Panhellenic Council took applications from women in all sororities on campus. Then I think 2 girls from each sorority were selected.
After members were selected, we met every few weeks in spring semester for training. Once fall semester started, we met once a week until recruitment. During recruitment, we met as neededwhen there were reported infractions and rule violations. After recruitment, we really didn't do much, since our main purpose was to handle recruitment rule violations and such. |
thank you all :)

my all local campus had a j-board, called United Greek Governing Board. I was rep for two and a half years.
Every organization (fraternity and sorority) had a representative and an alternate. It was chaired by the VP Panhellenic and VP Interfraternity, run/overseen by the Greek Life Director and the Dean of Students. We handled everything from rush violations to alcohol violations involving Greeks. Any Greek organization had the right to go to either UGGB or to the regular campus judicial board. Most chose UGGB because it is more peer-based. We have a lot of leniency in what we can assign, everything from community service to fines to social probation and beyond, but every punishment must be approved by the dean of students and the GLD. UGGB was good times, and 99% of the time, the cases were easy peasey, handled quickly and without problems. BUT! That 1% was full of 5 hour cases and back and forth debates, and the dean of students overriding our decision and just badness. |
