Question on Bid Classes and Recruitment

Quick Q's.

1. We have our founding fathers and mothers. Would the first new member class be the alpha class or would the be the founding class?

2. Also how do yall recruit? I don't wanna do it the way SigEp's do it. But we are going to do some of the good points the did. Should we do a weekend rush or year-round recruitment.

We are discussing these questions but I figured outside input would be helpful.

I am a little confused here. You are a SigEp, and from your posts, I can that less than 2 months ago, you were asking how to start your own fraternity http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=90082. Someone asked if you don't like SigEp (you deleted your original post).

Are you planning to disaffiliate from SigEp? Not that it matters, I am simply curious.

Just a word of caution - if you belong to more than one group, you might want to be careful of voicing comparisions of any policies, practicies, etc., both publically, or to members of either of your groups.

In my local sorority, Zeta Xi Delta, the Founders make up the Founding class and the 1st new member class is known as the Alpha class.

We don't name our classes, they're simply done by year.

I left SigEp in August due to personal reason between myself and the chapter. Then me and some other guys got together and tossed around the idea of having a local fraternity on campus. Then that idea went into the idea of a service fraternity instead of a socail fraternity. Then into a co-ed service fraternty.

I deleted my orginal post after we decided to make it a co-ed service fraternity. B/c my question did not need answering. Due to different rules on chartering/being recognized.

And when i talked about SigEp recruitment. I mean nothing bad about it. It just that the rules are very relaxed and informal.

Ok, you left. If you disaffiliated, I would suggest removing the letters from your signature.

Anyway...When you spoke about rush, you said that you were taking some"good points" from what SigEp did, and then doing things differently. When you think about how you want your new org to run, try to avoid thinking of it in terms of how SigEp does or does not operate (especially of respect to the brotherhood who chose you and initiated you...you should keep stuff like that to your private discussions).

You want your group to be "Alpha Xi", not "differnet than SigEp".
It's like "running to" vs. "running from" something. Strive to create new/yours, not "instead of".

Funny thing, the first time I saw this, I thought it was the AXi chapter of SigEp and that he was a founder.

Anyway, I was wondering if you were the same dude who won DZ's BMOC, or is there someone else with your name at another MO school?

EXACTLY what I thought the first time I saw him post. Why on earth would someone continue to identify himself with an organization he parted ways with? Very confusing.

rty33d 11-03-2007 03:18 PM

Sorry about all the confusion with SPE, myself, and Alpha Xi.

I did take spe off of my signature. i did not even think about it being on there.
And i am the dude that won DZ's BMOC. i am the one and only.
now i am kindof freaked out....

also thanks for bringing up the part of Alpha Xi needs to be Alpha Xi not Alpha Xi the other SigEp chapter....

lol ok now that the confusion is cleared up!

like ZetaXiDelta said, I would imagine that there would be a founding class, then alpha class and so on. My organization has been around for 80 years and they just did a class of Zeta Phi's... However, Delta chi chartered at my school, and they did a founding class and then an alpha, and so on....

Year round recruitment seems like the best way to do things since you'll be needing members as you grow. As a local, I never understood just one semester or a certain time for recruitment, because we always need members because of graduation or other circumstances. My school also has a fairly small greek population, to keep that in mind.

Google your name. The name you have in your signature.

If I read your additional info correctly, you are at UMKC.
What do you expect the similarities and differences will be between Alpha Xi and Alpha Phi Omega?

Sincerely
Randolph Fiinder
