NPHC Inquiry

Sorry, I guess that was an inappropiate question. Deleted.

Senusret I 10-30-2007 04:55 PM

On the other message board where you posted this question, the following replies were given:

I mean..... seems to me like you're doing everything right. That's not to say you will definitely be chosen when the time comes -- we're not in that chapter, so we can't say for sure.

If this organization requires some sort of letter of recommendation or sponsorship, I would start using your networks to secure that. Through that process you will be able to meet more seasoned members who can answer your questions better than we can.

I must say though.... if more than one member told me to look into other organizations, I might take that as a sign.

***

1. Your interest is plain by your actions - don't speak on it.
2. If someone tells you this MAY NOT be for you - know this is a standard tactic we say to anyone. Why? Because if you really want it, what ONE or TWO people say won't sway your heart.
3. Just because no one is talking to you doesn't mean you're not being noticed. If you really have been to 12 or so events trust me you're noticed.

Need a letter? Seek a Grad member. Have you attended any of their events? I would make my next two to three theirs they are much more open-minded about these things after seeing your work ethic.

Need Reassurance? We can't give you that, only you can. If you KNOW what you KNOW then you don't have to ASK. Ask yourself have I done what I would expect an aspirant to do? [Attend events, carry yourself well, grades, service] Ask yourself have I attempted contact with members? Yes, if they are "assy" instead of "classy" that MAY BE a sign that someone of your obvious standard should take note of. If you say I know thats just par for the course then take it like that and keep it moving.

All in all I will say this; being chosen now, a year from now or ten still means you will be chosen, when its your time. If your heart says you've done all you can do then take advice from Fred Hammond and just STAND.

***

It's Donnie McClurkin who made Stand. LOL!! Anyway, if they want you it won't make a difference what you do or not.

***

Don't worry about the "it's not for everybody, look at other orgs" comment. First off it's true, and secondly, that's only her opinion. Sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck to you!

***

aww i like how she asked this

i wouldnt stress out...it sounds like you are heading in the right direction

continue to be yourself and attend events...the worst thing u could do start to get fake for the sake of trying to "get to know people"...if that makes senses

i can tell the difference between a "hey girl" and someone who is generally interested in my life

Faithful,

I know I got the cold shoulder....ALOT. I'd get numbers and let's say, I didnt have much luck. Over summer break I wrote to all of them. I wrote them each personal letters & sent card to the ones that had summer birthdays. Of course, none of them responded but when I got back to school, let's just say...the letters & cards didnt go unnoticed. It's about your effort. Use creative methods to get their attention. If you've been instructed to get to know them personally and you were instructed to look elsewhere, you are probably on the right track http://www.onolympus.com/ubbthreads/...lins/laugh.gif

Good Luck!!

keep doing what you are doing and keep it on the low low

AND you got compliments on how you posed the question. Now, can you please go back to that message board and say "thank you" for the generous responses?

If you go to the top of each NPHC sorority's individual forum here, you will find a FAQ-type post which outlines their stance about discussing membership on GC.

Good luck in your pursuit.

Thank you. My apologies.

Having been on these boards for awhile, I want to say 'kudos' because I feel this is the first time I've ever noticed a post regarding a NPHC inquiry that was made with tact and discretion.

It wasn't one of those made by a poster named "XYZ-Wannabe" or "ABC-hopeful" that had a signature of "Future XYZ/ABC" that asked "So how do I get selected for this org?" or "What do I have to do to to be invited" or anything like that.

Best wishes to you :)

Well maybe. Depending on her org if interest, she and the chapter members may be violating Intake rules, which could lead to suspension and a barring from membership.

^^^^

Yes. There is official literature given from the International Office of each NPHC organization. This info is the same info is the same as most websites. The other issue, how does she know the organization of her choice will be taking in new members officially?

Many of us are trying very hard to hold our tongues, here.

My apologies, I didn't realize I asked an inappropiate question. I was just a bit confused. I've deleted my question as to not offend anyone. Goodnight.

Yes, I've been to the official website *many* times, download information files, memorized nearly every piece of information available to the public about specific programs, founders, incorporation dates, the first class, platforms etc...I've been to graduate chapter events, every chapter event...etc. I read three books as well. I've also learned about the other organizations in the Divine Nine. I by no means think anything is entitled to me, nor did I intend to offend or get any chapter or myself in trouble. I just wanted to get an outside perspective on my situation in reference to how to express interest discretely.

And to answer your question, I have no idea when they are taking members officially. Historically it's always been in a specific semester. I don't believe I've broken any rules by going to the events and expressing interests from the regulations I've seen online, but maybe there's something I'm missing. I'm really sorry for upsetting people or making you hold your tongues.

Goodnight.

Not to get all PP'er, but Wow...
