Hi all,

I posted a message a few weeks ago and was appalled by the mean spirited nature of the responses. I hope that in the future that even if you don't agree with whatever is being posted or feel that its somehow inappropriate we can have a little compassion and realize that even though we're just using computers, we're still people out there with REAL feelings who don't deserve to be treated poorly because you're feeling mean that day.

I'm never going to post on here again and will encourage my sorority to do the same.

I'm sure most of you are wonderful people, and I had the misfortune to only be responded by the not so wonderful people, but regardless, best of luck to you all. And I hope we can remember that every action we take represents our chapters and the sorority community at large. My treatment on these boards makes me sad for our greek community and no longer makes me wonder why people dislike us so much.

Thanks.

I'm sorry you feel this way--there are many people on this board here to help, but unfortunately you did not encounter those people. I saw your other post, and honestly, I didn't feel qualified to advise on your sorority's rituals and ceremonies--and I would guess others felt the same--so I did not post. Your question really was better suited for the Phi Mu forum, if on the internet at all.

You really shouldn't take anything personally or let your feelings be hurt by some people on the internet. You'll never meet these people, they don't know you... let them be mean, and you can rise above it. As Dr. Phil says, "if you wrestle with pigs, all you're gonna get is dirty."

I hate to be repetitive (since I know you all don't like it!) but thanks again for all the supportive messages. I can't tell you how much I appreciated it!!

best of luck to everyone!

I don't know if other posts were deleted, but in the thread you started in the Chapter Ops board, mine is the only reply. I apologize if you felt my tone was out of line, but in re-reading it, I don't feel that the average person would construe it as harsh or mean-spirited. Regardless, I do regret if anything I posted in regard to your question caused you any distress.

I strongly advise you, as a student leader, to take anything you receive from an Internet "resource"-- be it Greek Chat, Wikipedia, or any self-published message board-- with a grain of salt. GC is a great place to get ideas. But-- If you ever have any questions regarding sorority programs specific to your organization, you really should first check with your sorority manuals, then your adviser, then any regional program-specific alumnae directors.

Best of luck to you and your chapter!

GC gets many of the same kinds of questions over and over again, which tends to produce snark from long-time posters. Use the ignore feature if you don't like someone's tone, and you can navigate the site without running into those characters. You're going to run into this on any Internet message board, and GC does a fairly good job at moderating the worst of it. You won't find that elsewhere, where personal attacks and obscene language are the norm in many chat rooms and online boards.

adpiucf - I think she was referring to the replies she received in the Greek Life forum (she posted the same two threads here in the GL forum as well)
