Finding Volunteer Opportunities

Our house is contemplating more philanthropy, and one of my thoughts was volunteering at a drug-related halfway house or Narcotics Anonymous, or some similar organization. Does anyone know a good source of these kind of places in Dallas?

Two thoughts, without being familiar with Dallas itself:

First, check your school's course catalog for a Substance Abuse class. Psychology, Counseling, you assuredly have one. Ask the professor who teaches that class for suggestions and contacts.

Second, just look in the phone book and call. The worst they can do is say no. And if someone tells you no, ask if you can be pointed to some agency that could use your help.

Go to idealist.org and search for non-profits in Dallas, TX -- you WILL be able to find one that suits your needs and they WILL be looking for volunteers :)
